Want something reliable with a good commercial grade engine for a big yard. Just a regular walk behind mower, not a riding one, etc.....

Any guys in the business know what the best one is to get?

I have a Troy that I bought at Home Depot and it's a very good one. Even after almost a years non-use, it started with one pull. Cuts through high grass easily.

WOLF, no need to go with a "commercial size engine" unless you're running it for 3-400 hours a year

LawnBoy self propells come in several different models ranging in price from $250 to $450 depending on engine size and cut size.

Buy two extra blades so you can conveniently switch them out about every seventh or eighth cut (and then take them all in for $5 sharpening twice a year) and keep the filter clean and any of those should run for a solid 4-500 hours before being noticeably weaker on compression. For most homeowners that would be a six to eight year period depending on size and frequency of mowing

As noted earlier, most Honda models also very long term dependable. But they do range from about $450-750 in price and they are quite a bit heavier than most LawnBoy walk behind self propelled

Get one of these bad boys.... They actually cut better than gas powered ones, Great workout. They have come along way since the old ones. And Gas powered lawnmowers are horrible for the environment. The emissions coming out of a gas powered lawn mower are extremely high.

Get a Honda. I bought one in 1987 and had to finally buy a new one last year.

I believe it.

What do you run, maybe 30 to 40 minutes per mowing? So maybe 25 to 30 hours a year.

Keep blades sharp and filters clean...change oil twice a year and most Hondas, LawnBoys or Toros should rock steady for 4-500 hours or more.

Well yeah...maybe a bit. But I'm using mine for contract work so I don't mow unless it's still got a decent edge.

Plus here in Tampa Bay area, we have a higher sand content within most lawns, regardless of the grass quality and sand just beats the edge off a mower blade.
