I like to look at the defensive numbers like shooting pct., steals, blocked shots, etc. Look for bad defenses playing on the road.

3 most important stats are assists, turnovers, offensive rebounds. look for teams that dont turn the ball over and dont take bad shots, watch as many games as possible. Personally I make confrence poweratings, and I prefwer neutral site games. I prefer betting against bad coaches like Jim Boheim and Mike Shefsky, Jim Thomason, I bet on GOOD coaches like Bobby Braswell, Gillepsi, Shoes Vetrone. Also Blue Ribbon annual is a good source of info, along with The Insiders online. Key on your local confrences, easiest cheese is NOV,DEC and MArch

Good reference for early season

Here's a good write-up on most major teams that I've found helpful.

(I would not buy anything from any touts but some do provide good, free info.)

For example, here's what they say about Pepperdine and E. Carolina

<TABLE width=500>Pepperdine: Pepperdine (15-16 last season, 13-17 ATS) is off another disappointing campaign. There has been plenty of talent on this team, but the lack of defense for coach Paul Westphal's club is the main reason they have underachieved. They were supposed to be much better, and notice they went 9-18 against the spread two years ago and 13-17 ATS last year.

There's plenty of returning talent, especially on offense, with all five starters returning. 6'-7" senior Yakhouba Diawara (19 ppg, 6.6 rpg) and 6'-8" senior Glen McGowan (17.8 ppg, 5.4 rpg) anchor a frontcourt that has no trouble putting the ball in the hole. The backcourt is strong and tall, with 6'-5" senior guard Terrance Johnson (15 ppg) and 6'-5" junior guard Alex Acker (13 ppg, 5 rpg). Pepperdine averaged 79 ppg and looks just as strong offensively.

But defense (or lack of) has been a problem (79 ppg surrendered). Pepperdine was 10-5 SU, 7-8 ATS at home, but a poor 5-11 SU, 6-9 ATS on the road. 6'-9" senior Jesse Pinegar played in 30 games and provides more bulk off the bench along with 6'-9" senior Robert Turner and 6'-9" junior Derick Grubb.

There is backcourt depth with redshirt freshman guard Kinglsey Costain, who was named to the Canadian Young Men's (Under 20) National Team Roster over the summer. Two freshmen are 6'-6" Oliver Prince and 7'-0" center Russell Hicks. The Waves have plenty of talent and depth to be much better, though they need to tighten up the 'D'.

There’s hardly anyone returning to the Pirates (13-14 SU, 9-11 ATS) this season except 6’4 soph Mike Cook (10 ppg, 4 rpg) who was the second leading scorer a year ago. Cook has a scorer’s mentality and should boost his scoring average but the team will be young and will take their lumps.

Tom Hammonds son of an NBA-er is a 6’4 newcomer with potential and 6’6 Jonathon Hart who won 50 games in Prep school the last two years brings some encouragement for the future. Returnees 6’10 Moussa Badiane (9 ppg, 6 rpg), 6’8 Corey Rouse (5 ppg, 3 rpg) and assist leader Japhet McNeil hope to add some stability to the program while waiting for the youngsters to develop.

The defense was good last season (39% shooting allowed by opponents), but they were 3-9 SU on the road where the offense scored just 60 ppg (they averaged 78 ppg at home). The bottom line is that the talent level this year just won’t cut it in tough C-USA but next year could be another story.

Would you consider home court advantage more important in college hoops then home field advantage in college football?

Are road favorites just as dangerous in hoops as they are in football?
