I got loaded on beer and jaeger shots friday night and gave myself a nice case of gout. Other than taking allupurinol or other preventives ( which I dont want to do) how do you best cure it? I hit the motrin 600 2 at a time then elevate. Pom wonderful seems better than black cherry juice for me. If it gets real bad I will opt for colchisene. Everybody is different so just curious to hear what tactics are used

Half the time Allupurinol doesn't do the full job. Once the doctor also prescribed me Probenecid it stopped the pain entirely.

I really dont want to take something everyday. I read allupurinol is bad for the liver so I stopped and it didnt really keep me from getting gout. Bought some tart cherries at Trader Joes and that should help. Wish I had an oxy or something similar for the pain.

You don't want to be taking painkillers everyday either. Everybody is different, but for me, if I didn't have the allopurinol/probenecid combo I wouldn't be able to function no matter how many tart cherries I had. Really, the reality is if you can't lower your uric acid below 6mg/dl your just prolonging the agony, and eventually the gout attacks will get worse the older you get.

No more daily painkillers for sure. I changed my diet a ton and that has kept me from flaring. Thing is I love to drink beer and sometimes too many. Playing with fire ! I was hoping for cures once goit is there. Like I said Pom juice is better for me than black cherry. I also use motrin rather than indocin. Motrin is tough on the guts but indocine feels like it is burning a hole right through!

I use to get it all the time. I quit drinking soda & that did the trick. Iuse to take 75 mg Indocin. It took the pain away & I could walk. It's the only med that work unless you want to take colchince the rest of your life. Also, lay off lunch meat.

My doc gave me a coupon where it's not expensive since I must take it everyday probably the rest of my life. Ask your doc for a coupon, it costs me 15/month max

I have Kaiser which always has the cheapest drugs and they would most likely give me allupurinol. Glad it is working for you !

Funny you say lunch meat. I bought some turkey at Costco that I thought I liked. Real processed and kind of sketchy! One thing I have learned is to stay away from processed meats. I buy most of my meat at Whole Foods now and I avoid anything that isnt hormone, steroid etc. free. Thing is I love my IPA's yet I think they are killing me !

there is really nothing to do but take a Uloric..home remedy won't do the trick...talk to your doctor....he may have some free samples.....lowering the acid levels in your body and diet are the only cures..bol
