Well, pretty sure that Maldonado, Snider & Gomez will be fined and obviously you can't go out and throw punches. But it starts to annoy me that the guy, who started all this by jawing off at Gomez (in this case SP Garret Cole), will probably get away without any ejection, fine or suspension once again.
I get it that it's bad baseball etiquette to admire your HR balls (or in that case long flyballs), but what the fuck are you exactly getting pissed off as a pitcher? You threw a friggin bad pitch, it was a crappy pitch on your part and everybody saw it, so get the fuck over it and move on. I don't see batters getting upset and scream at a pitcher because he made him look foolish on a well executed breaking pitch....
Besides: Cole gets pissed that Gomez stared at his long flyball instead at sprinting out of the box. Makes all the sense in the world because if he had run hard from the get-go, he would probably have scored an inside the park HR instead of just a triple. So congrats idiot for getting upset over Gomez costing himself and the Brewers a run in a scoreless, tied ballgame... Loser!@#0

Not disputing that Gomez is a hothead and has acted like an idiot time and time again. Also the ejection and a possible suspension for throwing punches is warranted. But that doesn't change the fact that nothing happens if Cole just keeps his mouth shut and keeps pitching. He made a bad pitch, so if he wants to be upset, she should be upset about himself not making his pitch.
It just seems wrong that the guy who causes all this by overreacting and mouthing off is the one that will once again will get away without any consequence and like I said: It doesn't make sense, everybody saw that this obviously wasn't a well executed pitch and Gomez only hurt his own team, so just move on and laugh about him costing himself & his team.

Kind of similar to that debate about teams running up the score in other sports or getting upset about bunts in the 1st inning of a 7-0 ballgame (HOU @OAK) and stolen bases in rather lopsided games. Those things are part of the game, a 7run lead with 8 innings to go has been blown in the past. Yes, it's highly unlikely and even more so if you're playing the Houston Astros, but still it's possible.
Besides there are people in the stands that paid money to watch you play and nowadays they paid some good coin with ticket, parking & food prices. So at least they should be able to expect them play hard for 9 innings and not just pack it in the 1st or midway through. And sorry, but if someone upsets you because he's playing hard and with 100% effort until the final whistle is blown or the final out has been made, you should change your profession.

Obviously Gomez didn't give a full-out effort out of the box, but that should upset his teammates or coaching staff because it cost THEM a run, not the opposing team/bench.

ya i agree if he hustles its a home run honestly i didn't have a problem with how either player reacted until gomez started throwing his helmet around but if they just both mouthed off to each other i say no harm no foul

And if you would go + scream at an umpire after he made a call the way Cole did with Gomez, I'm pretty sure he would have been gone pretty quickly. Yes, Gomez hasn't to react to it the way he did, but if admiring a (supposed) HR/flipping your bat is considered playing the game the wrong way, I doubt that mouthing off in between plays is good etiquette...

Besides reading that postgame comment and watching the video, I'm pretty sure he left out some f-bombs and he's well aware that him screaming at somebody that way, esp. at a guy known for having a temper, will cause at least some confrontation more often than not:
"I grabbed the ball from J-Hay and I said, "If you're going to hit a home run, watch it. If you're going to hit a fly ball to center field, don't watch it." I didn't curse at him, I did't try to provoke a fight. I was frustrated and I let my emotions get the better of me and I ended up getting one of my teammates hurt so I'm not too thrilled about it. No harm no foul, ok. But once you start to eject/suspend players, the one who started it just shouldn't go without a penalty. Just doesn't seem right in my book, that you more or less put your team in a better position by starting something like this.
Plus I just think that so called unwritten rule is nothing but crap: If you don't like people watching their HRs, make better pitches. Pitchers don't get upset if someone does the same after hitting a popfly and being upset with himself (standing in the box, in that case watching in disgust) and flipping the bat away while trotting halfheartedly towards first and I don't see batters screaming at pitchers if they just struck out and the pitchers shows some emotion, bumping his chest or something like that.

If a pitcher doesnt like getting "showed up", keep your mouth shut and bust a few "inside pitchers" when the guy comes up again at his next at bat.
I watch a lot of baseball and I see guys all the time pimping HRs, show boating, etc...for whatever reason some guys get a way with it and "baseball talking heads" dont say a word, but other guys do it and its considered classless.
