There are a lot of good young pitchers like Sheets emerging from bad teams. Westbrook and Sabathia are solid and could be aces in the right spot outside of Cleveland. Webb is getting thoroughly screwed pitching in Arizona, a 3.86 ERA, .243 BA against...and 3-8 record.
But these are all guys that bad teams refuse to trade and good teams won't fork over as much for. They would rather get a cheaper deal for a "name", an experienced guy that might remain a teammate for the rest of the year or maybe a year or two more. Amazing how the Yanks with all their resources keep going with older vets. This strategy could really start catching up with them, does anyone really trust their rotation come October?

I always admired the yanks for their innovation and cleverness, but they now have a roster full of guys that would be well known no matter what team they play for and its not because theyre putting up big numbers

The Cubs plan to make a run at free agent righthander Ben Sheets, according to the Chicago Tribune.
Sheets, who is scheduled to work out for interested teams later this month, missed the entire 2009 season after elbow surgery. However, he has posted double-digit win total in six of his seven major league seasons and has a career 3.72 ERA.
The newspaper reported Cubs general manager Jim Hendry spoke to Sheets' representatives during December's winter meetings, and a source told the newspaper that the Cubs are one of Sheets' preferred destinations.
According to the Chicago Tribune, Sheets is seeking a two-year deal worth $10 to $12 million per season. However, the Cubs feel confident they can land him with an incentive-laden deal.

Two years at 10-12 mil guaranteed would be just an awful terrible deal. Goodness. If this really is the case then they shoulda just re-signed Harden. If it's really incentive-laden then I guess. I don;t think I'd give more than 4-5 mil per year guaranteed and then let him prove he can stay healthy from there.
