Making his bid to become the 12th winner of thoroughbred racing's Triple Crown, American Pharoah drew the fifth post for the 2015 Belmont Stakes during a ceremony held Wednesday at Rockefeller Center in New York. He'll be the 14th 3-year-old colt with a chance to place his name in the history books since the last Triple Crown winner, Affirmed in 1978.American Pharoah was given 3-5 morning line odds for the 1-1/2 mile race. Frosted, from the sixth spot, is the second-favorite, at 5-1 odds. Materiality, starting from the eight post, was set at 8-1.
"I've always liked the 5," American Pharoah trainer Bob Baffert said of the draw.
Since 1978, 13 horses have entered the Belmont and left unsuccessful. Last year California Chrome finished just outside the money in fourth. Of the 13 attempts, eight finished in the money and four finished in second. The most recent of those was Smarty Jones in 2004, behind Birdstone.
"I want to win it for the horse," Baffert said. "It's something I don't think about. Right now we just want to stay focused, keep the horse happy, healthy. I've got a great team around me."
The 147th running of the Belmont Stakes will go to post at 6:50 p.m. (ET) on Saturday.

Only 7 contenders...LOL

American Pharoah already ate some Frosted Flakes in the Derby......Frosted can`t beat this horse....Didn`t do it the Derby and won`t do it here.

Same for Materialality......American Pharoah beat him in the Derby....Enough said!

American Pharoah in a Rocking Chair Race......Horse won`t even see the WHIP.

It means they respect the horse.

If I remember correctly only 6 horses ran in Secretariat's Belmont.

IMO, AP wins this race, only other horse that should close for the exacta is Frosted.

Pathetic bunch of competition.

That's not what recent history tells us.

If he wins the triple crown that's great but you have to fade him from a gambling perspective. Zero value on him

I'm looking for History not Value.

Good luck!

Skipping the Preakness is a huge factor; Smarty Jones smoked Birdstone in the Derby and had the tables turned in the Belmont. Materialality has a shot.

I hear ya.....But this horse looks classy.......That Preakness was a cake walk.....Horse wasn`t used much at all......Should have plenty of run here in the Belmont.

We`ll see......Good luck!

a $ 1 tribox with every horse except American Pharoah would cost $ 210, and he would pay thousands regardless of the combination should AP have a bad day

I'm going to do something along those lines

maybe only 5 horses

maybe include AP but hoping he's not at the top

I've been pulling it out my ass lately, might let few hundred fly on this race looking for the big score

when Smarty Jones was going for the triple crown, I did such a box but included SJ. He finished 2nd, but the ticket still paid $ 1,600 (not sure how much I bet, somewhere between a $ 2 to $ 5 box is my best guess)

and no, I'm not a horse player, don't pretend to be a railbird, I just bet 3 races a year and I occasionally go to Saratoga. (last time being 2013)

PS: just looked it up, a $ 2 trifecta paid $ 1,589 when Smarty Jones placed (a 36-1 came in first)

Wouldn't bet American Pharaoh at 3-5 with Art Schlichter's money. 3 races in 5 weeks for American Pharaoh, whereas Frosted and Materiality are coming in fresh after skipping the Preakness, and the fact that this is distance that none of these horses have gone make him unbetable for me.
