The Belmont Stakes
I think this race will come down to patience. FUNNY CIDE's workout on 6/3 shows a colt who is feeling very frisky. He'll be hard to hold back early for Santos. I think Gary Stevens will have SCRIMSHAW in the lead so the fractions could be quicker than either really want. This could be a big help to TEN MOST WANTED and I really would love to bet him but there's that guy...that Pat Day guy...on his back - and it just frightens me. So what's Bailey going to do with EMPIRE MAKER? Is he going to follow Funny Cide and get involved in that whole duel upfront thing? He's going to be awfully tempted - don't want to let that gelding outta your sight. Or - will he show a little patience and let his horse run similar to his Derby run. Wait, and let the race develop - take them all in the stretch. If he does - I think he wins. If he stays too close to Funny Cide, he's toast and TMW could win by default. One thing I believe for certain is that there is no way Funny Cide wins this race. (There. I just clinched the Triple Crown for him.)

Cerveza--trying to beat 10 Most--all his work in Cal while its been damp/cool in NY may be his undoing-also not sold on Ill derby performance-I do agree Funny in a tough spot-if he follows Scrimshaw's lead he may be cooked-if he doesn't and scrim gets brave on the front he may take it all--think the class is still Empire and will gladly take 4-1!

I also agree..FUNNY CIDE won't win today! Been watching horse racing since AFFIRMED did it, always something prevents "THE TRIPLE CROWN". Whether it be stepping on a needle, or a jockey making a move too early, it's not going to happen unless another superhorse comes along, and FUNNY CIDE isn't it. A GELDING with a trainer named BARCLAY TAGG won't win the triple crown!! Great for Funny Cide if he proves me wrong, but I'd key EMPIRE MAKER and DYNEVER on top in exactas.
