bellator 87

The lightweight tournament takes center stage at Bellator 87, 8 fighters looking to make their way toward $100,000 and a shot at Michael Chandler’s lightweight championship. One of the favorites, Patricky “Pitbull” Freire injured his knee and will not be competing in the lightweight tournament; Saad Awad fills in and faces Guillaume De lorenzi. Even though nobody in this tournament poses much of a threat to Chandler, it will hopefully provide a couple of nice plays for us. 2 plays on this card for me and here they are;

Will Brooks -180 vs Ricardo Tirloni +160 – Got a chance to see Brooks on new years eve in japan as he stopped veteran Satoru Kitaoka with some vicious ground n pound in the 2nd round. Brooks, who has a wrestling background, showed good active standup skills and when the fight hit the ground he wasn’t too worried despite Kitaoka’s having half of his 30 wins by submission. Despite being in dangerous positions with Kitaoka, Brooks patiently landed blow after blow until the referee was forced to step in. Tirloni, the brazilian has 8 submissions in his 15 wins and will go for the finish as both of his bellator wins were by submission. Who wins it? Well I like this Will Brooks to dominate this fight as his athleticism and power will be too much for Tirloni. Look for a stoppage or a convincing decision win for the young undefeated fighter.

2 units Will Brooks -180

Lloyd Woodard -110 vs David Rickels -110 – Woodard is an imposing figure, aggressive and strong with his only 2 losses coming against the champ, Michael Chandler and Rick Hawn. Rickels a grinder who has looked impressive to me, his only loss a controversial split decision against Karl Amoussou. I’m Surprised by the line, going to take Rickels in this one as I think he has shown the heart and chin to absorb punishment and keep on coming. I think Rickels can hang with Woodard on the feet and if the game goes to the ground, I like his slick submissions and top game.

1 unit David Rickels -110

good luck and I’ll be back Friday with UFC 156,
