Russ Francis
Russ Francis was a hell of a football player and an excellent tight end when he played for some very good Pats teams in the mid to late 70's. He made it to the Pro Bowl 3 straight years from 1977 to 79.
Russ also played for six seasons with the Niners but was not the same star he was after being drated in the first round by the Pats in 1975 but he was the starting tight end for the Niners against the Dolphins in SB 19 and had five catches for 60 yards in the Niner win. He played a total of 13 seasons in the NFL.
A graduate from the U. Of Oregon and a star at football and fine track and field athelete (javelin) he is a member of the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame.
Francis set the national high school record for the javelin in 1971 at 259 feet, 9 inches; the record stood until 1988.
