Last year 1 and 2 played each other.. #3 won in another bowl game.. Split titles.. Who is to say the same thing won't happen again.. 2 major conference teams without a loss, it will happen again in that scenario, imo.. They can't shut out the other team left standing.. If we even get that far..

last year each team had ONE loss. this year - if 3 stay unbeaten it won't be the case of one loss teams.

WHEN USC wins the Orange Bowl they will be #1 in both polls - period - end of discussion. IF OU or Auburn beats USC and the other wins their game - the Orange Bowl winner will get the coaches poll but we could see the other school win the writer's poll.

3 teams w/ 1 loss, 3 teams w/ 0 losses, doesn't matter.. Its 1,2,3.. I'm with you, the writers would likely go with the other team, recent history proves it.. I'm suggesting all the SC/OU/Au griping should stop.. Or slow down a bit..

Winky...

I highly doubt it will come down that way if OU or Auburn beats USC for the simple reason that the winner will have beat the #1 team in the country (AP and USA) and the other team may end up playing Virginia Tech or Miami, both of which will go into the game ranked around #10.

Also last year, wasn't USC ranked 1 or 2 in both poths, but the computers screwed them?

When they win the Orange Bowl? I'll bet you a nickel if they make it there, & face Oklahoma, that they will lose. I'm talking S/U winner here.

If they meet Auburn, well I don't believe in Tubbermoron so I couldn't put money on them.

between OU and Auburn - USC would have a MUCH easier time with OU. TV sets all across america would be turned off by the start of 4Q because USC would be so far in front NO ONE would care about the game unless they were a USC fan.

as for a bet - YOU ARE ON! if OU makes it (they will win out - but if auburn doesn't pass them) i'll make that bet. we have someone hold the money and they pay the winner. if you are on for this - we will talk about it later.

I would not be so sure of USC being favored over Auburn by at least 3 points. As you know how high a team is rated means nothing in determining who is favored in a game. If Auburn rolls over both Alabama and Tenn. like they rolled over Geogia, I won't be surprised to actually see Auburn a small favorite in this game.

Look, OK will win out and so will the Trojans so don't look at Auburn too seriously. I say let them cry foul if they win out this year and let them get ready for prime time next season and pay their dues like USC did between last year and this one. For that mattter, Utah does nothing for me either, conference notwithstanding. They JUST showed up and can only whine about how unfair the world has been to them. I hate whiners.

Look at LSU. Top football programs don't need to cry foul forever and bi*tch about splitting anything like a national title for long if they are for real. If they had 1/2 the program USC does they'd be back in the hunt again like USC and they'd have carried over their ranking and power into the next season just like the Trojans did. But did they? I just don't believe a flash in the pan like LSU (or Auburn this season) should be taken as seriously as the schools that show up at the top of the heap over and over.

PS... Winky, I'll take some of that action too if you wouldn't mind.

I hadn't really thought about split polls until you guys brought it up. I don't know, I think if USC wins it's a mute point. They're not going to split the title with that team winning. On the other hand if OU made it to the title game and beat USC, it wouldn't surprise me if Auburn and OU split the title. After last year's split poll fiasco and everybody saying OU didn't belong there, i think OU has become the Rodney Dangerfield's of college football. They won't get any respect no matter what they do from this point. :drink:

GoSooner's...it is always a possibility but as it stands now the polls are pretty tight.....So let's say Oklahoma is slightly behind Auburn in the AP poll, but still makes it to the Orange Bowl...An Oklahoma win over USC will look alot better than an Auburn win over the 9, 10, 12th ranked team in the country, whoever it will be. I just don't see the majority of voters having it out for Oklahoma if this scenario plays out.

One question that should be used to determine who is #1 & #2. Who plays in the strongest conference?

SEC hands down. If Auburn beats Alabama then Tennessee in the SEC championship game Auburn will be one of the teams in Miami.
