baseball fixed ? why, how and what for ???
Hypo question =
If Smoltz (given that it's his fault, right?), if Smoltz would have won this game, with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth, an asshole (whoever he was) DIDN'T strike out, or whatever = If Smoltz would have won like that, with the Braves hitters actually pulling it out in the bottom of the ninth (like they almost did) =
Would the game of baseball STILL be fixed ? If so, then it would be the Nats guys throwing the game. Do you realize how many guys have said this for ump-teen years when they lose ???
It doesn't HAVE to be fixed. It fixes itself. With randomness and circumstance, but you have to understand (and study) statistics and probability to understand that it would take entirely too much effort (incredible, in fact) to FIX the game of baseball.
Simply put = you are just pissed you lost. When you made this wager, there was the chance you would lose, but you, (and I'm not being critical here), you, assumed early on (yesterday) that Smoltz was a SHOE-IN. You did, didn't you? You simply looked at a number, then the teams records, then made a fast, simple decision = this is a cake-walk. Easy win, nothing to think about, just put it up. Lots of people do this. Then, they cannot BELIEVE that they lost. That number does NOT mean AUTOMATIC WIN.
If it looks real good, too good, too easy, and too obvious, even to a buffoon?
It is going to be trouble. Trouble. Line support never went above the overnight -300 (based on the teams W-L record, obviously) but, how old is Smoltz? How good are the Braves? Is their hitting that good, automatic, to smoke anyone, especially the Nats ???
No.
These are the games that people behind the 8-ball. If you look at this match-up, then say to yourself "Whoa, this is an absolute", then you need to stop, think and look again, or least WAIT and see where the money is traveling. Compare to the NHL BUFF team tonight = they opened large and progressively went UP large by gametime. Won. First sign of trouble for Braves, Overnite line was higher than the posted opening line, then never got above the overnite line. So, if this was such a SHOE-IN, then money would have been dumped HUGE on the Braves, and you would have seen a change in the number.
It didn't happen. Warning, Will Robinson, Warning.
Anyway, not preaching, just putting it out there. Looked easy as pie, until it wasn't, then, OMG = they lost. It happens. Watch these kind of games very closely. If it feels AUTOMATIC = do NOT play it.
