Barkley just said Tony Parker is the best Point Guard in the NBA. Do you agree?

Valid arguments. He certainly doesn't have that killer instinct. If he did, he could 20/20 in his sleep every game.

I like Parker, and I like all of the PG's talked up in this thread so far, but my pick for best PG in the league right now is Deron Williams.

Deron doesn't even make the list of poll options... But then again, they didn't include Rondo/Rose either (WTF)

6 straight years of 20+ PER according to Hollinger ratings. I agree with the analysis that he's not playing as well as he could on D but I think D-Will is very much the Chris Paul of the East.

For one he is always hurt now, can't guard anybody and in the playoffs couldn't even get his team past the Bulls with like half their rotation out due to injuries.

I don't think he can be put over any of the guys mentioned in this thread.

say wut?...

if you say "the Heat are just another team we have to beat to win the championship", he says "we're not just another team, we're a great team"

and when asked about Mark Gasol winning defensive player of the year, LBJ said he (LBJ) should of won defensive player of the year.

so I just assume there's a good chance he thinks he's the best PG in the game too. Why not?

I have always thought Tony Parker was a great player but it has always puzzled me why he doesn't average a lot more assists with that team?

A big part of that is the whole team dishes out the assists and there can only be so many. Hell, Diaw had abunch last night once again. I have long felt that TP is at least top 3,in playoffs this year he was the best. Smartest definitely.

The San Antonio Spurs fear Tony Parker could have a torn quadriceps tendon, which would mean season-ending surgery for the point guard, a source told ESPN's Michael C. Wright on Thursday.
Parker, 34, had an MRI after suffering the injury during the Spurs' 121-96 victory over the Houston Rockets on Wednesday night.
With 8:43 left in the fourth quarter, Parker immediately clutched at his left knee after a driving floater over Patrick Beverley and collapsed to the court, where he lay motionless for several minutes.
He rose to his feet but was unable to put any pressure on his left leg to walk, so he was carried off the court by rookie guard Dejounte Murray and center Dewayne Dedmon.
Said coach Gregg Popovich after the game: "It's not good."
Houston will host Game 3 of the best-of-seven Western Conference semifinals on Friday night.

Parker and LeBron James are now the league's only players to have scored 4,000 points and dished 1,000 assists in the postseason.
Parker missed 16 games during the regular season because of rest and various ailments, such as right knee soreness, a left quadriceps bruise, a left knee bruise, left foot pain and back stiffness.
The most likely candidate to receive first crack at replacing Parker in the lineup is veteran Patty Mills, who averaged 9.5 points per game and 3.5 assists during the regular season and contributed seven points on Wednesday against the Rockets. If Mills moves to the starting lineup, it is likely Manu Ginobili will serve as the primary backup.
Parker's absence also will lead to more minutes for Murray, as well as Kyle Anderson, a former college point guard, and Jonathon Simmons.

Derrick Rose I think you mean....

Rondo, Russ I'd take over him as well.

I don't really wanna rip Parker too much but Barkley is underrating how much weaker of a defender he is than other top PGs. In the GS series they basically had all perimeter guys who could score and for long stretches they just kept isolating whoever he was guarding over and over and over. You can't do that vs a good defender.

I'd take Curry healthy over him too and probably even John Wall/Kyrie Irving. Those guys are up and comers though so it is a little harder to argue them over him...

I know this thread is 4 years old, but I would never take Rondo over Tony at any point in either career

I think Tony is more talented, but I would take him if he had 75% of the talent just for character and chemistry

Parker's only 34? Seems like he'd be older than that

Character? He banged his teammates wife. If that happens on a team other than the Spurs then it probably becomes a major story and distraction. He has a humble personality and an aesthetically pleasing game so people tend to overrate him a little (i.e Barkley/Jalen in this thread, no wonder nobody wants to listen to former players give their bad opinions on sports anymore)

Rondo may not have been better, but that was the peak of peoples perception of Rondo as a player. After he went off in the 2012 Heat series (21-11-7) and the Celts lost in 7 to them despite having Mikhael Pietrus and Keyon Dooling as their 6th and 7th men.

I personally preferred Mills at this point in Parkers career

Mills fits better when the offense runs through Kawhi in the last 7-8 minutes since he shoots/spaces/moves w/o ball better so it might not be a big loss in that sense. But over the course of a full game it might add up as well, Beverly is a really good on ball defender and Mills can barely dribble for a PG, he could have a lot of problems. Maybe Ginobili can assume more ball-handling responsibilities, tough to say what he is capable of at advanced age. Another thing is if Parker isn't on the court to attack, easier for the Rockets to play Eric Gordon more and Beverly less to improve their offense.

Also, Parker must've got on the good PED's because he was playing better the last few weeks than he has in the last few years. If he got hurt last year I probably would've just shrugged, but he was playing really well vs some pretty stiff competition in Conley/Beverly.
