Continuing in the manner of my ongoing sports threads since Jan 2008, I will be posting in NBA and measuring progress via the use of a Mythical Bank.

Assigned wager amounts are designed to correspond in best money management fashion with the size of the MB. Interested readers can adjust their own wager amounts proportionately based on their own real life banks.

WEDNESDAY, Oct 29

Overnight bite

THUNDER -2 (-105)ol vs Buck $12

Milwaukee will enter this game having won just three times in their past 22 Away games with 0DaysRest (2006-8). Take it back two more seasons and they're a not so lusty 9-37 in this scheduling role.

Meanwhile, Oklahoma City will be welcoming their new franchise and based on the enthusiastic support they showed Hornets during their time in from New Orleans, this should be a good spot for the newly glossed Thunder to pull a win and cover this small number.

ADDING for Wednesday

betjam

RAPTOR +5.5 (-110) at Sixah $10
KING +6 (-110) at Wolf $10
HEAT/KNICKERBOCKER Undah 208 (-110) $8

Also using TOR +185 in my 2Teamer O' the Day thread (see NHL Forum).

When I use an NBA selection in the 2ToD thread, the W or L will be included in my NBA record, but any $$ gained or lost will be reflected in the 2ToD Bank.

Giving a strong look to also using KING ml (currently +200) in combination with RedWing -1.5 (currently +240) for a small 2Teamer.....but will wait until just before 8pm EDT to make that call.

Best to us all for a profitable Wednesday.

No it's not, if he wants to bet $10 that's fine. Maybe it's just his hobby or maybe that's all he can afford. It doesn't matter how much you play.

COLBYSON, your question is not unfair and it helps illustrate exactly why I began to run all my Threads By Sport (NHL, NBA, MLB, NFL, CFB and CBB) with a "Mythical Bank"

The purpose of my thread is to show how one can take a beginning number and with good selections AND responsible money management see a very legitimate return on their initial investment.

If you reefer back to Post #1 of this thread (or in any of my Sport threads) you might notice that I use "$300" merely as a Sample and I assign wager amounts in proportion to that beginning number as a means to illustrate responsible money management.

Anyone wishing to follow along and fit my Selections/Wagers into their own true bank needs only to adjust accordingly.

For example, if your personal real life bank is $3000, you would simply multiply everything in my Thread by 10x.

Or if it's $1200, by 4x etc

The reason I use the smaller number is twofold.

1) My own real life bank at the moment is not a whole lot bigger (by each sport) than the one I use as illustration

2) And neither is the real life bank of at least half the people who visit the RxForum.

I've been fraternizing with sports gamblers for over ten years now and have come to learn that for every guy who is honestly risking $100+ per wager, there are ten guys who are wagering $10-50.

What kind of heresy is this?

I've been fraternizing with sports gamblers for over ten years now and have come to learn that for every guy who is honestly risking $100+ per wager, there are ten guys who are wagering $10-50.

Been at it for 25 years and I agree. Except in the world of internet forums where everyone is a sharp with a huge bankroll having been built by hitting 80%+ of their plays.

Looks like an interesting thread Barman. Good luck with your plays and I think I will follow along for awhile.

Most important is that if you (or I) are not consistently hitting at least in the 57% or better range over several months (at average price of -110) then it really doesn't matter much if we're betting $10 or if we're betting $100 per wager.

At the end of the month(s) we will both be struggling to break even from our starting bank.

The vast majority of posters at the RxForum who keep a "running tally" of their sports selections use various forms of "Units" to keep score.

And to the Reader at Large that's frankly fairly useless information.

If PosterJohn goes 15-10 over 25 picks and he's doing it for FIVE UNITS and PosterJack goes 15-10 over same picks and he's doing it for TEN UNITS, it creates the faux appearance that Jack is more successful than John.

What I came to seek a couple years ago was the answer to, "How can I take a starting bank and double it in responsible fashion?"

Watch my threads and I hope that you and I will both see the answer to that question.

If I in fact double my Mythical $300, then you have then been shown exactly how YOU could double YOUR real life bank, whatever that number is.

The closest thing we have at the RxForum to my recently adopted style of Posting would be the Threads found in the Rx Tracker Forum.

Each person posting there is restricted to a Starting Point a set range of "size" for their posted selections and the goal is to have the best Return as possible.

Thanks for your indulgence in reading this somewhat longwinded explanation.

I hope that you find some value in my threads (hell, I hope "I" find value in my threads...heh)....whether it be simply the selections I make and/or the way I methodically build a Bank Balance to a Higher Number.

Questions, comments always welcome.

For the record, I have a very active thread in NHL as well with it's own Bank; a 2Teamer O' the Day thread with it's own Bank; and also a couple of smaller threads in both NFL and CFB with their own Banks.

I don't do a lot of football because frankly I've never been real good at it. It happens I'm very close to even so far this year, but it's been done with less than 50 selections in both NFL and CFB over two months.

Finally, I would invite anyone reading my Threads to begin their own ongoing thread with your own Mythical Bank.

Apply your own posted NBA wagers to your Mythical Bank and see how well you can do at not only increasing it, but more important, maintaining that increase.

heh...missed your post as I was crossing over.

Ayuh....My "ten year" reference was with regard to using the internet forums to learn and share with other sports bettors.

For better or worse, I'm currently confident in the posted work product of about 20 people on the entire worldwide web.

Everyone else is just gaming.....And I have no problem with that since it's only important that I know who is who.

Look forward to your input and/or ideas as the season progresses Newmeat

Makes more sense, otherwise you would certainly appear to be wise beyond your years.

Sometimes hard for me to assess accurately who is who.

Keep comin' back...(smile)

As we wrap around into 2009 it will become a bit easier to see who is making a serious effort and who is just treating the discipline more as a form of leisure recreation essentially "guessing" outcomes.

Nothing dishonorable with the latter, but for those of us working to build a usable knowledge base that will sustain us in coming years, the former group is with who we want to be in tune.

The PrivateMessage feature will be helpful in coming months because the more serious students can exchange info without unduly defaming one or more of the Casual Players in a public posting.
