Bandwagon Cappers

At least thats what I call them. I'm noticing alot of media driven cappers here on the RX, especially last year & now even this early in the season I see people wanting to hand over their respective divisions to Media driven teams like the Bills, Falcons, Seattle!

I can see some of it, take Seattle for instance, they are much improved & made some noise last year. Hey even as a Saints fan I like Mike Vick & now he has mediocre WR's to throw to as opposed to none last year, but I don't see that Falcon team being able to hold of the Saints or TB in that division. Hell if it wasn't for another titanic collapse by the Saints last year they wouldn't even been in that race. As a matter of fact I have them fighting it out with Carolina for the basement in the NFC South. I am not saying they will be a bad team hell third place in that division might mean the playoffs.

The Bills have added a few bodies as well but can they hold off the likes of Miami & NE, I don't see it happening!

The Bills added some serious bodies. Takeo Spikes is a one man wrecking crew, few people know how good he is because he's been stuck in Cincy. I consider the Bills a legitimate choice for AFC East.

I agree about Atlanta though. Good luck Atlanta. I disagree about Carolina. I think the NFC south will go TAMPA, NO, CAR, ATLANTA

CAZZI, no way/chance/whatever Atlanta finishes last in this division. Having Michael Vick at QB is automatically enough to get you third here...We definetly agree that the Bills are threats though. Henry having another great year at RB is our only concern with them.

If you're going to 'cap - you have to be realistic about your team - or don't wager on them - and when you discuss them, you should post right out front that you're a fan - so other 'cappers know that your opinion is biased.
Re: St Joe's opinion - with the understanding that every team in the league is only one or two players, or maybe just a coach away from the title - it also has to be understood that some owners and/or front offices create situations (ego's and politics) that prevent teams from making it to the big game. And yes, the media creates a false sense in some teams destinies - they crown a champ before he gets there.
So two things for you fans - don't listen to the media, and it ain't always the players that get you there, or take you out of the running - so pay attention to who the coach is - and what the history of the owner and front office is.

Every year the media announces who is going to be better and it's always for the same reason - because of the players they picked up in free agency. They never take into account the players learning a new system and becoming acclimated to new teammates and surroundings. Or if the reason for their success was because of the scheme they played in with their last team.

In either case, I pay very close attention to who the media is on as the teams they are touting are usually in good "play against" situations early on in the season. I do see a majority backing Atlanta but until Vick becomes a passer instead of a runner the Falcons will have a very difficult time unseating the Bucs for the division title.

Well the system in SEATTLE is all systems are a go because Holmgren has been doing the same thing for a few years up there.There are no excuses with this team this year.No media hype bulsh*t or Trent Wiffer in the qb slot.Its put up or shut down!

Buffalo and Drew Bledsoe's offense will not be as potent this year without Peerless Price in the lineup, but on the other hand, Price opens up the offense and field even more so now for Vick, Dunn, and T.J. Duckett.....

Talking about Bledsoe - He started to wilt over the last half of the season; They averaged more than 30 points per game for the first 8 games then the average fell to just over 17 points per game for the second 8 games - and the bulk of that loss can be laid on Bledsoes doorstep. Check out his turnover stats for the same period.
Without Price, Bledsoe will probably do a serious hurting this year - and the Honeymoon will be over in the Big Blizzard.

I dont listen to the news, I dont watch ESPN. If anything go against what they lead you to believe. If you watch closely, you can tell when certain anchors lose money on their picks.

I don't buy that for a second. Price benefited greatly last year having Moulds drawing all the double teams. I don't think you will see Price lighting up the field like last year.

I absolutly nailed the Saints last year. I do well with them. If a game comes along I don't like I just lay off. When I see the Saints winning outright or covering the spread, I nail it. And I have won money on them repeatedly. But I hear what your saying.

Check this out, I have a friend that picks out five teams he think will do well vs the spread over the year and he bets on those five teams every week, believe it or not he does quite well betting like that. It's his system so who the hell am I to tell him otherwise. I might even call him in a while to see whats up with that.

Hey, if you can do well betting on your team, then more power to you. 99% of players don't have that discipline to lay off or even go against their team. that's why I gave up my team loyalties...too much confusion when you want to go against your "favorite" team.

And your buddy's system makes sense, and kind of what i do every year. There are some teams that EVERYONE thinks will suck, and then the lines are inflated against them. Look at the San Diego chargers two years ago. Won 1 game all year, but covered a hell of a lot of games against the spread. Betting on the shit teams works in certain situations.

There has never been any doubt in my mind it's easier to handicap your local team much easier than others. I know this from experience also, having lived in the Tampa area most of my life. When you have a local team, every day on the radio, local news, local newspaper, you get much more, and much deeper inside info on this team.Thats why I have suggested in the past that any of us that has a local team keep others informed week to week during the seaon to benefit us all.

Its okay to be a fan, but I've learned that the only valid opinion from a fan is when he's going against the home team, and that's only if he truly loves them. We are used to seeing bettors come here to push their home team for the upcoming game, and I've seen some who are mad at their teams so they'll bash and bet against them, but I only value a homer's opinion if he can look at the game objectively and admit his team's chances aren't very good.

I agree with you for the most part concerning a fan betting his team. But the thing with me is I only bet on the Saints. If I feel they wont cover I just lay off!

I'm a Raiders fan, and the 2 1/2 points the oddsmakers are going to GIVE me is too much to pass up. Someone, please tell me why the Raiders won't go into Tenessee and beat those fools for the 3rd straight time. Besides it's not going to be in Oakland this time around.

The only time I bet on my team (the Lions) is when I can see the public driving the line up on the favorite because the Lions are that bad. I have actually made pretty good money the last two years betting on the Lions.
