Bama scheduled FSU, and FSU was supposed to be a national title contender. Can't fault Bama for FSU losing it's QB on opening day.
The SEC is stronger than the BIG 10, especially the SEC West. The Big 10 is considerable weaker in the middle and lower tiers, and their lower tier is very large too. Ohio St's conference schedule has enough cupcakes already
I'm posting this not to justify picking Bama over Ohio St, although it helps, I'm posting this in response to arguments mocking Bama's schedule. Choosing one or two games is straw-man cherry picking approach
Willie, understood. Not trying to nitpick one or two games but trying to nitpick the committee for saying losses matter and then choosing Bama which played two less P5 games than OSU. If the SEC played 9 conf games and one P5 OOC I would have a lot less heartburn over this. But they don’t and the committee says losses matter more than wins. So if the criteria says losses matter then Bama played 2 less meaningful games which is a huge advantage and rewards teams for playing crappy teams because they didn’t win. On top of two less P5 games Bama scheduled a FCs school with limited scholarships. So the message the committee is sending is minimize losses which means schedule easy wins.
it is a huge advantage for Bama to play 2 less games and a FCS school. Ask any coach, the physicality between a FCS, non-P5 and P5 team matters and too many P5 games are going to catch up with you. That is why I respect the shit out of USC although they are punished by the committee. 9 conf games plus home and homes vs Texas and ND in consecutive years. No FCS teams ever. That is what we should demand but if USC, who plays 11 regular season P5 Games, scheduled Mercer instead of Notre Dame, they would be in the playoffs. And there is the flaw, rewarding bad scheduling. The message the committee is sending, don’t lose which means don’t play anyone , which means worse games for the fans.
