What is it about the way these teams match up that means a sure victory for Oakland?

I don't understand it?

In Early August Baltimore started off with a bang winning 3 vs Seattle and then 4 vs Texas - Then they Won 2 of 3 at Anaheim, 2 of 3 at toronto - and since they first faced oakland they have lost 7 straight!

How does a team go from winning 11 of 14 games - to 11 for 21...

Is it the bullpen? Is it their young starters?

I welcome any summary input that someone can give me on this. Is someone injured or serving a suspension? Did Oakland make some major trade that I missed?

I know oakland got Dotel who has been pretty good - but I dont think its the closer making the difference here on either team - in fact over the last 21 games baltimore has played the score has only been within 1 point for 3 GAMES.

Ponson has won 5 of his last 7 and has not logged a loss since the 4th of July...

The only time Ponson has faced oakland was in his last start - a game which he did not earn a decision and his team went on to lose 4-5 as a result of the homer given up by BJ Ryan in the 8th to Durazo.

I'd like especially to hear from someone who knows either team well to help me understand why Ponson is +181 (@pinny).

Mulder has been very good this year - but over his last 10 starts he has allowed 4 or more runs 6 times. Baltimore is 1-6 this month when scoring less than 4 runs, and they are 10-4 when scoring 4 or more (3 of those were against toronto and the other vs Mulder in his last start (august 18th vs ponson).

I dont know what to make of this but as you might have picked up I'm leaning Baltimore.

I think the books make the lines according to public perception and the pitcher plays a large part as well. Many people don't look past the pitcher's record or reputation and Mulder is a good example here.

Also, Baltimore has lost their last 7 in a row while Oakland is 6-1 during that same time. That adds to the public's tendency to bet Oakland.

I am staying away from this bet because of Ponson. His recent success gives me concern that Baltimore could still be in this one in the later innings.

Good luck.

So you mean to say you like Oakland here?

To me Ponson is a reason to bet on Baltimore not to stay off them

Also it looks like Kotsay will be out again tonight with the flu - I think he is their regular leadoff guy but like I said I dont know the team

Is he important or more of a platoon guy anyway?

he has the most AB on the team, the most hits, and the second best average - so I assume he is the regular leadoff guy

No, I don't like a bet on Oakland because of Ponson. I also don't like to bet on Baltimore because of their recent record.

Oh

My Question is why have they been losing so much?

They arent a bad team and ponson with confidence may be the way out for them

just seems like they have been working hard and this might be a good time to get on them while they're underpriced

am also on the over 8.5, at a dog line too...

looking like it was in the bag early... now down to last 3-outs to get 1-run.

Especially with Mora interference call, if this don't go over it's a bad beat for sure.... 1-run in the final 5-innings with Mulder out after 6.

still noone has answered my question as to why

HOW ARE THEY LOSING THIS MUCH

IS THE TEAM JUST THAT BAD? IS IT BAD COACHING?

Ponson probably ate a few double quarter pounders before the game

Towers though shaky has put together a couple of decent outings - Schilling has had trouble with the jays this year so I'll take the jays plus RL:

Toronto (towers) +1.5 (+105)
