Leiter vs Martinez
I belive in Florida's outright win here, but as an insurance, I will lay the wood and take the runline in what I see as a tight 1 run game, that could go either way. Al Leiter is looking to revenge his loss to the Mets, in which he actually outplayed Martinez on the road, allowing 1 earned run less than Pedro. Since then, the Marlins are 4-0, scoring 7.25 RPG and winning by 4.5 RPG. As for the Mets, they are 1-3 since that game, and they have been playing very poorly, with the exception of one win vs the Phillies. Florida has the bullpen edge as well, as their avaiable guys have a combined ERA of 2.55, which is 1.50 lower than NYM's avaiable bullpen ERA. The Marlins also have the momentum going in their favour in this matchup, as they first avoided the sweep at NY and then got a convincing revenge win yesterday to open up the second series of the season vs the Mets. The Mets are 2-7 on the road this year.
Baltimore -115
Lopez vs Clement
Baltimore went 2-2 vs Boston last year with Lopez on the mound, and Rodrigo only allowed 6 ER in 24.2 IP in those 4 starts. So far this year, Lopez was very impressive, as the Oriles won all of his three starts, and he is looking to bounce back after his worst performance this season. The O's offense is also looking to improve on one of their worst offensive games of the season, so expect both O's offense and pitching to give some extra effort in this game. As for Clement, he is coming off of his best start of the season, but I don't see him pitching that well on the road, where he hasn't won in a while. For him to win on the road, the Red Sox will have to score 5 runs or more and that won't be easy against Lopez who limited Boston to 4 runs or less in 3 out of his last 4 starts against them. Lopez also blanked his opponents in 2 out of his last 4 home starts. He can beat you by himself, but Clement's road woes can only help Lopez here, as Baltimore should be able to score 5+ today. Looking at the Sagarin's NPERA system, it is obvious that Clement's ERA is kinda too low when you put all things in the perspective. He is overrated and Lopez is stil getting NO RESPECT from the linemakers. The red hot Boston Red Sox are stil just a 3-4 road team this year and this will be anither taugh road game for them.
