I understand that but the ball came out of the carriers hands and went forward into the end zone, hence no posession of ball. as far as I have always known that is a touchback for the defense. What am I missing here...
Not the same thing? I totlaly agree with you it looked like he deliberately floated the ball forward but by rule don't you have to define that as a fumble being that the ball left his hands while he was carrying ball forward?
Interesting. This would be good fodder for all of the talking-head football shows on cable this week. I have seen dozens of plays in recent years where the ball is fumbled forward and the ball is awarded to the defense. Not sure why this is not categorized the same way despite the 'intent' factor.It was a weird play. I believe the rule says if he loses it on accident it's a fumble, it's a pass if he deliberately pushes it forward.
