I know one current successful tour pro, I think Kenny Perry, still pays some benefactor a portion of his earnings and the guys sponsored him like 20 years ago. If I remember correctly it is 10% of his earnings and I am pretty sure it is Perry. May be able to find out if you google it. Beyond that, I know nothing.
Matt, my Dad backed a girl on the LPGA for 3 years. I believe he would still have the contract. It might take me a few days to get it, but I could certainly pass it on to you. Let me know and I'll get him to scan and email it to me.

I can't find it to save my life but while I was vacationing this week there was an article in the Daytona Beach paper about Perry and the man who sponsored him. Perry was done but this man he knew said I pay the 5000 (I think it was) and you play if you make it you give 10 percent or 15 percent to Lipscomb Christian college for scholarships. It was a great article but couldnt find it online it was a few days ago. If I recall correctly Perry's kids went there one became a preacher.
I'm not really sure how it was set up, so I better not speculate. I'm traveling right now, but I'll try to get it over the weekend and get it to you next week.
I know both golf and tennis sponsors, they do it to help peoples dreams come true, or atleast give them a shot, and they can more than afford it. For a pure investment its probably not a good one.
