The trip was a big learning experience. You read a bunch of stuff online about Vegas but there's some things you have to experience yourself.

First, there's a noticeable difference between the 5* and the 4* hotels. I don't know how someone concluded that the Hilton was a 4* hotel. It's a dump, it's old, it smells, and it's 10 minute monorail ride from anything fun.

Second, the city is incredibly expensive. You want to go somewhere? It's a $20 taxi ride round-trip. You want to eat something? It's $20 for a meal. Drinks are expensive unless you get them at the Sportsbook for free. Gambling limits are high. $10/$25 minimums for Blackjack everywhere.

It seemed a bit .... boring. There's nothing noticeably different about the activities you can do at the hotels. You gamble, you drink, you eat, you sleep, you go to the pool. It's not like if you go to Caesar's you're going to do anything different than if you were at the Bellagio. The machines are all the same. The games are the same.

Everyone in the sportsbook was a fat, old guy. And all of them were idiots. You try to talk to any of them about how they pick games. "Man, I just go with what I think". I sat down to watch the North Texas-Ball State game next to a guy who had Ball State moneyline. I had North Texas and the 17 points I didn't need. All game he was whining about how they made a bowl 2 straight years, how North Texas sucked, yada yada yada.

I see why books win now. People who bet... they're idiots. 1/2 the book was full of USC homers who would take them without even looking at the spread. You put up San Jose State +55 they would have taken USC. They're huge front-runners too. They only bet on the great teams. They took Florida, Ohio State, Penn State, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, all the top teams that were giving points. The points don't matter to them.

Also, where am I supposed to go in Vegas if I want to be around 20-year olds? I'm guessing next time I need to stay off-strip at the Palms or the Hard Rock and rent a car. This way I can save money on food, transportation, and be around people who aren't in their 50s. MGM wasn't too bad with the age thing, Hilton was awful.

Thanks for the write up. Heck you make alot of money sitting in the sportsbook and talking with these "idiots" a half hour before the games go off. Yes...what you said about vegas is very true. Next time you should go when therx has their bash. At least you'll have someone to show you around town cuz there is a TON to do in that town.

Hilton is a place for dead people.

Yes, Palms or Hard Rock for a younger crowd and you are correct that Vegas has gotten a lot more expensive.

The vast majority of people in the books are complete losers.

another advantage to hard Rock is the strip mall right accross the street, with the drug store. "wallgreens"? you can get all your booze and everything you need dirt cheap. Also a few cheap restaurants and such right accross the street. May not even rent a car coz u dont even need to leave the area.

Like any place in the world, it's what you make of it

If you don't have anyway to learn the ropes, one weekend can feel like a complete waste

Congrats TomG.

I learned to get the bus pass for $7 (24-hours). Saved a lot of money. The Deuce Line stops at all Strip Casinos and the Fremont Casino downtown.

I like Reno in the winter for gambling skiing and eating for way cheap.

Vegas in the summer and hanging at the pool.

There are more younger people in Reno as they drove there.

Vegas you have to know where the $5 tables are.

Reno will e-mail you free rooms to the extent you want to filter them..........LOL

you should be gambling and sleeping during the day and going to clubs at night while in vegas, every night you can mess around with a different girl whether at the club or back at your place if you put in any effort.

o'shays should have really low table limits and a younger crowd. the irish casino. also has beer pong 24/7

Are there any swimming pools in Vegas? Or are they all knee deep eye candy and booze sessions (not that anything is wrong with that.) It would be fun to actually do some swimming next time I go though instead of trudging around in bath tub high water with a beer in my hand while I suck in my gut and stare at 20 year old babes.

For actually swimming pools you have to go to older places like Ballys,Tropicana,Riviera and Hilton.
Downtown might have a couple of places like Binions or Plaza.

Objection, appreciate it. Seems like all the newer or remodeled places go for the miniature water park look. And it's nice and all but sometimes you just want to tear up some water in the hot Vegas sun.

It has something to do with either regulations/laws or insurance but when the newer places were built they couldn't have "deep" pools.

You think this is fun? Have you ever been? Another Vegas hype machine with too many people, too many idiots and drinks that they charge even more than most overprices Vegas establishments.

I dont think its fun, but the poster asked where he could find other 20 year olds.

I do like hardrock, but you I woudnt be caught dead in that pool on that day.

Don't assume people in charge know what they are d
