Senators coach Hartsburg to change goalies for tonight's game

Allen Panzeri, The Ottawa Citizen

Published: Sunday, October 05, 2008

STOCKHOLM, Sweden - Ottawa Senators coach Craig Hartsburg will change goalies for tonight's game against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Alex Auld will start instead of Martin Gerber, who was in net for Saturday's 4-3 overtime loss.
While Gerber didn't play especially well and allowed two, maybe three, bad goals, Hartsburg said that wasn't the deciding factor.
The coaching staff also wanted to get Auld into a game. If he didn't play tonight, he wouldn't have much of a chance over the next two weeks, since the Senators have only three games - next Saturday at home against the Detroit Red Wings, and the following Friday and Saturday against Phoenix and Boston, respectively.
"We just felt this was best for both Alex and Martin," said Hartsburg

Give me Ottawa -105

Ottawa actually has a shot then. They should have won yesterday if not for Gerber.

I'm entirely sold on Auld either but Gerber really needs to find another profession and Ottawa really needs to find another tender to have any chance this year.

CBC was suggesting Khabibulin.

Have to clear up some cap space to even consider it. Gerber certainly didn't help his trade value yesterday.

I wonder how high Khabibulin's stock is as well right now. Forget his ridiculous salary and cap hit. If Chicago thought he was all that than why did they grab Huet? Something tells me his best days are behind him and he's running on reputation.

Nice to see you back ewitty. Go Sens

How is it that the Sens are in this position EVERY year. I wish Buff would have half the skating talent...

Sens look very good after 2 games....

Should be 2-0. They go home with 3 out of 4 possible points. No question they should be a player in the east. However, the Pens aren't the greatest test right now. Pittsburgh should make for a great fade providing the linemakers give them love on reputation alone.

Good to see you again too. I've been way too busy to surf the forums these days, and I spent the summer living in a land without internet, but hopefully I'll get to spend some time here during Sens games at least.

Good luck with the season. I hope you do great. Who do you like this year?

I wish Auld had gotten the shutout. But Sens came out of Stockholm with 3/4 points...I'll take it!

I've got a sizable investment on Dallas this year at 25/1.

I like Washington out of the east.

"living in a land without internet"

Sounds like a Steven King horror novel.
