A lot of chatter about Auburn not being a Top 5 team and them being "lucky"..etc..etc. Here's the deal: Auburn walked into a very hostile environment in their 1st ROAD GAME of the year and beat the "brilliant coach", a "top 20 team", and the Referees.

Did KSU leave points on the field? Absolutely. But, if you watched the game, it was clear who the better team was (at every position). Keep in mind, AU is without Carl Lawson and Jermaine Whitehead on Defense (2 starters and 2 ALL SEC'ers). This defense is improving and when all the starters are in place, the depth will only make this stop unit stronger.

With Duke Williams emerging as a star and another week for Sammie Coates' knee to heal (along with Ricardo Louis, Quan Bray, CJ Uzomah, and Melvin Ray) this receiving corps. will add another dimension to Gus' offense that will be impossible to defend (provided Marshall throws in his lanes and keeps his passes from being deflected at the line of scrimmage).

AU will score 52+ against LA. Tech and then take revenge against LSU; putting them at 5-0. After that, it's the most daunting schedule in the nation that they will need to navigate; but make no mistake about it....this team is damn good and can compete with the best teams in the Nation on any given day.....PARTICULARLY AS AN UNDERDOG.

Let's see how Kansas State fares this year before rushing to judgment on Auburn. This win in Manhattan could look a whole lot better at the end of this season and will certainly serve AU well when they hit the road again (in Oxford, Starkville, and Athens).

I assume this part is a joke. The no calls on PI, and the officials inexplicable decision not to review Williams TD "catch" were horrendous calls. Yes, KState got a good bit of calls go their way as well, but it certainly wasn't one sided.

Say what you want, Auburn looked like hot garbage last night. They get no pressure on the QB, and they are bad in the secondary. They will give up a lot of points come SEC play. I think they are better offensively than they looked last night, but it appears after watching that game that if you simply defend the run and make them hit 2-3 pass plays a drive, they can't do it. The reality is their best QB is sitting on the bench, but Gus won't replace Marshall at this point. I hope he's still the QB when they come to Oxford.

Let me throw this in, too. If Williams is going to emerge as a star, he needs to catch the football.

The Auburn team I saw last night is a shell of last years team.

How do you think Bo Wallace and the boys would have done last night in Manhattan? And Duke will be just fine....trust me.

The Auburn you saw last night was a "Road Favorite" against a Top 20 team...whereas last year, they flew under the radar until they beat Texas A&M in College Station. Hardly a shell of last years team.

Wow.... Auburn SUCKS! Otherwise how the hell could they BARELY beat a weak #20 KS team being #5 ranked in the country? They got backdoored and obviously couldn't put up all the points everyone including the linesmen thought they'd do since they came NO WHERE NEAR the total of 66!!!!!

I have no idea how Bo and company would have done. We haven't played anyone with a pulse besides Boise, so I have no idea how good we are yet. We will find out on October 4th where we stand.

Here's the thing, though. This conversation isn't about Bo and Ole Miss. It's about how shitty Auburn looked last night. They couldn't run the football, and Marshall won't beat a decent team with his arm. They miss Robinson tremendously in the run game, and on defense they get no pressure with Lawson out. If they couldn't get pressure last night, how are they going to do it against similar to better competition in SEC play? The secondary is terrible with or without Whitehead. KState had a 5'10" white kid that ran about a 4.7 running free in the secondary all night. What do you think an solid WR corp in the SEC(bama, ole miss, TAMU, UGA) are going to do to that secondary?

If you would look at it rationally, you would see the issues on defense. You would see the issues in the passing game. But you are a fan, and won't do that. I get it.

Kansas State was clearly the better team. I'm not even going to entertain talent, because K-State has used the same formula under Snyder for 20+ years of just outplaying, out-scheming better talent. If it were all just based on potential, we wouldn't even need to play the games, because the paper trails tell all.

So, I agree it's too early to say Auburn sucks, and it's quite disrespectful to Kstate, which was the better team last night. Oklahoma is on notice.

RLR...If this K.State team played this Auburn team 10 times (4 times in Manhattan,4 times on the Plains, and 2 times in Jerry's World (where all neutral games are played nowadays), how many times would K.State win?

IF K.State were going to ever beat AU, it would have been last night. I'm not sure how many of the Top 20 teams in the country would have come out with a "W" in Manhattan last night.

Looks can be deceiving...you know this. You're a sharp guy and you understand how some games fall into that perfect storm where the better team just needs to survive and get out of town with a W any way possible. Their Secondary is fine...particularly with Whitehead...again...don't fall into the trap that says Sexton is not a good WR because he's 5' 10" and white....if Wes Welker believed that, he wouldn't have amounted to anything and neither would Steve Largent. I see AU's issues on Defense...but Ellis is playing a "bend don't break" 4-3 and is gaining experience with is Underclassmen. They have given up an average of 16 points per game and have shown improvement each week. We shall see..

Your post is full of Excuses about last night, and then the Confusion arises when you clutter the rest of the thread with Facts that are actually Predictions about next week, the future, players that don't play, inexperienced ones that will get better, players that might play, and K-State's future.

The only clear Fact about last night is that Auburn is still strongly in Possession of a Magical Horse Shoe that despite getting outplayed on the field, regardless of Auburn players being more talented and dropping balls, missing blocks, throws, and having a bad night....allows them to come up with a Win.

Oh the irony of stating its a WR Corp that cannot be stopped after Scoring 20 Points. Marshall had a 40 and a 39 yard pass, one of which was mainly yards after catch when a player fell down.......the rest of the night? 152 yards Passing. Here's a fact for you...Nick Marshall cannot throw the ball consistently well, and unless Auburn starts getting Johnson in a few series, as that kid can throw, they will lose a few ball games this year.....count on it. The speed/misdirection combo of Marshall/Mason was lethal....big drop off with a pounder like Payne and the absence of Prosch. Auburn is going to have to throw more consistently this year to be equally as lucky/successful as last year. Not going to do it with Marshall alone this year in my opinion.....

R/E...the ONLY clear fact is that Auburn won the football game last night and they are now 3-0. Was the WR Corps "stopped" last night? Is "Nick Marshall cannot throw the ball consistently well" a stated fact or is it an opinion?

They didn't do it with Marshall alone last year (as you mentioned) and won't do it with Marshall alone this year. The Auburn offense has more weapons this year than last year; albeit Tre is better than C.A.P. but the drop off isn't so significant that it outweighs the incremental increase the offense has gained with experience and additions.

It just amazes me that because AU didn't rush for 300+ and put up 45-52 points, that people are ready to throw the baby out with the bathwater. You of all people should empathize with this given all the talk that Bama is "down" this year because they only beat WVU by 11 instead of 27. It's ludicrous and short sighted.

Half of the Top 10 teams in the country wouldn't have come out of Manhattan with a victory last night...in my opinion.

Auburn def is not a top 5 team

Then who is? I mean..it's all subjective...right?

Which other top 5 team has gone on the road and gotten a victory against a Top 20 team this year? How did UGA do in Columbia last weekend?

Never judge a team, any team, based on one performance, especially one on the road. That is a general rule. I can see an upside for Auburn and if you judged K St on the 2nd half of the Iowa St game where would you be. Both teams are very good. It is going to be a long season guys. K ST got the benefit of a road game on a week night keep that in mind. Auburn's play calling in that next to last drive when they settled for a FG was very questionable. They need to improve their red zone game for sure. Had they been ahead by 4 more points that would have sealed the deal. Sure K ST missed 3 FG's but that goes on the coaching as much as anything and the wind conditions were not ideal.

You are answering with Auburn colored glasses; I know its tough but take a step back and realize that AU with Mason and Marshall last year was the #1 Rushing Attack with Prosch blocking.....this year so far #19. Auburn did not have to throw much last year, they were 106th. This year they are 84th thus far, primarily because of a 12-16 effort from Johnson for 243 yards....the kid can throw down field. AU's rushing attack is still good but it won't be nearly as lethal speed wise; thus Auburn is going to have to throw more. Just because you have better weapons at WR doesn't mean anything unless someone can get the ball to them consistently. I saw two overthrown TD's last night. Is Auburn good? Yes did not say they weren't but this year, if they don't get better passing the results won't be the same. I think last night only proved that without the Mason/Marshall speed....the rushing attack can be slowed further if the passing game is not consistent. That is not predictions like your 1st post......that is my opinion based on the early factual statistics of the season. The rest will unfold.....

Agree with all you've said here...although I think Tre's speed advantage over C.A.P.'s is negligible. The overthrown TD's went just beyond Coate's fingertips and then Duke dropped a crossing route that hit him in the hands. All normal kinks in week 3 and first Road Game. JJ is a better passer than Nick but Nick is improving and has improved from year to year. Auburn had to throw more last night because K.State's defense dictated that AU throw. Their defense is well versed on the read-option. Very well versed. I look at last night's game as a stepping stone and the fact that AU won with only bringing their "B" game offensively in the face of adversity is an accomplishment in and of itself.

The rest will unfold. One game (lackluster offensive performance) a season does not make.
