As most of you probably know by the way I have been beating the proverbial drum. This truly is one of the best plays I have ever seen on the board. I have been handicapping on a serious level since 1994. GL Everyone!!

they moved it well versus LaTech. I was a little surprised.

though I expect MSU defense to be a bit better.

Good to hear...

I got on Auburn earlier this week as well but might decide to put a little more on it.

Glad to hear someone else actually watched some of the MSU/Jackson State game. Granted I only watched about half of it, but the offense Mullen ran would not have worked at all on an SEC defense. Their favorite play was to sub in their big quarterback and shotgun snap it to him. Then, he would just take off running. Looked like a high school playbook.

And for those that will argue, "Well, it worked at Florida", there are literally a thousand wrinkles to the Florida offense because of all the skill players they have. MSU is very low on receivers and their best back (Anthony Dixon) is good but not your typical spread-type back. He weighs probably around 235-240. Also, I think he missed last week because of a DUI.

Just my two cents.

Take this for what it's worth...

Just some extra info I found on a sports forum. Choose to do with it what you want.

Copied and pasted from a poster discussing Auburn's stats against LA Tech and a few stats from the MSU/Jackson State game...

Auburn won the first down battle, averaging 5.12 yards per play on 1st down to Louisiana Tech’s 2.38 yards.
Chris Todd had his best collegiate start, passing for 255-yards and 2 TD’s. Breaking him down by downs, Todd had a rating of 110.5 on 1st down, 123.0 on 2nd down and an astounding 325.3 rating on 3rd down. The last time an Auburn quarterback had a passer rating over 300 on 3rd down was Jason Campbell in 2004 against Louisiana Tech.
The coaching staff preached impact plays during the spring and Auburn won the battle Saturday night. The Auburn offense had 6 plays of 15-yards or more for 201-yards and La. Tech had 3 plays for 66-yards. Two of those plays came during the Bulldogs 1st offensive possession.
The Auburn offense had 16 offensive plays of 10-yards or more and 37 plays of 6-yards or more against the Bulldogs.
Every Auburn offensive possession resulted in a score or at least 1 first down, failing to go “3 & out” during the game. The last time an Auburn offense went an entire game without any “3 & out” series was against Ball State in 2005.
A statistical goal any offense aims for is averaging at least 30-yards per offensive possession. The Auburn offense averaged 46.3 yards per offensive possession and La. Tech was held to 22.3 yards per possession. During the first half, the Bulldog offense averaged 35.7 yards per possession but was held to just 14.6 yards during the second half.
The last time Auburn totaled over 500-yards in offense was against the Georgia Bulldogs in 2005.
Auburn’s 556-yards in total offense was the 4th best opening day performance in school history. It also marked only the second time in school history, the offense netted over 300-yards rushing and over 200-yards passing in a season opener.
The last time an Auburn offense had over 300-yards rushing and over 250-yards passing against a D1 opponent was against Mississippi State in 1995
  • MSU had 13 offensive possessions with an average starting field position at the Jackson State 47. The Bulldogs averaged 31.5 yards per possession.

8 of their possessions started on their own side of the field and they scored 2 times. Their remaining 5 possessions began on Jackson State's side of the field and they scored 4 times.

They had 1 defensive TD, so their offense actually scored 38 points. Last season, Grambling defeated Jackson State, 41-9.

Jackson State had the ball 13 times and turned it over 8 times

Watched the entire Miss St. replay and those 2 QB's for Miss St. looked very green against Jax St. Auburn's defensive line is going to give these guys nightmares. Welcome to Jordan Hare Stadium on a Sat. night fellas. It won't be pretty. And good luck to Carl Torbush and his Doggie defense slowing down that no huddle attack AU is bringing. I want you guys to see how fast that little Frosh RB McCalebb is for Aub. Guy is going to be unbelievable!

One more thing for the State fans...don't think I am hating on your team. I have made several documented calls here on this forum that you guys would win some games outright that you weren't supposed to win against Auburn AND Alabama in years past. We are all here to knock in the book's teeth, not to play favorites. SEC football is my specialty and also my passion (besides trading stocks). I have called PLENTY of OUTRIGHT double digit SEC dog upsets in years past. Search the threads if need be! Good luck to everyone and may your offshore accounts swell and your local man be sent to the poorhouse!!!:103631605:toast::cripwalk:

McCalebb is definitely going to be fun to watch this year. First Auburn freshman to rush for over 100 yards in a season opener since Bo. But even so, I always hate putting money on Auburn to cover... Especially after last year's performance in Starkville.

People need to get that 3-2 pitcer's duel out of their heads from last year. Auburn outgained them almost 3-1 but last year is just that...LAST YEAR! Auburn had a great team last year but the lame duck coaching staff quit on em' before the season even began. Tubbs and the "Barbecue Boys" KNEW once Tony Franklin came in, it was OVER!!! One of the powerbrokers forced that to happen and it was over from there.....a disaster!
