AU v Miss State - Caution

Hey Guys,

Just a caution to anyone jumping on Miss St. I know they looked good last week against a team that has a potent offense, but remember, A&M has no defensive to speak of and Miss St has played either cupcakes or the bottom dwellers of the SEC so far.

Prescott is a beast, but the teams they have played aren't exactly great on defense. They will score points. The bigger issue I see is their scoring defense. Let's look at their games.

Southern Miss 49-0
UAB 47-34
S. Alabama 35-3
LSU 34-29
Texas A&M 48-31

Southern Miss is 116th in points scored and S. Alabama is 100th. So throw them out. That leaves 31 points a game Miss St gives up to decent opponents. If you want to call UAB and LSU decent. They've played one "real" team and A&M may not even be that. Look how they got to where they were last week. Pummeled a vastly overrated S. Carolina team, crushed three straight high school teams, then squeaked one out against Arkansas, at home, in OT!

AU is giving up 14.4 a game. Take out their cupcakes, and it's the same. That includes an LSU team that AU held to 7, while Miss St gave up 29 to them.

Another factor to keep in mind, AU has been in this situation before. Multiple times. This is all new to Miss St. They are riding high and setting themselves up for a huge letdown.

Miss St will score, I just don't see them scoring enough. Or at least, I think the probability that they score enough is low enough that I'd steer clear. Not saying play AU, though I am, just saying don't believe the hype and bet the farm on Miss St. Miss St is fool's gold I tell ya. They could still win, especially if AU plays as they did against K State (and has the same refs), but if AU plays as they did against LSU, it could get ugly.

Nick is gonna light the hicks up. I'm certain he's had enough of the Prescott Heisman bullshit. Auburn by at least two touches.

MSU gave up one def touchdown to LSU and two Hail Mary TDs (one after a bad snap and one after an onside)

A&M also scored back to back with an onside kick.

MSU also getting back center Dillon Day and wr Jameon Lewis.

by all means fade away though

ram,
little caution about MSU's defense: 1) uab had a 71, 81, and 88 yd td's on blown coverage. Mullen stressed over and over in interviews how that was main focus in practice. Clear these up, and they have as that was an early season game 2) Lsu was down 34-16 with under 4 minutes left , drove and scored on prevent defense. They kick off and msu puts in backup center. He snaps ball over prescotts head, they get it on about the 30 and finally score to give them their 29pt total. 3) Ta&m was down 48-17 when they get ball with under 5 minutes left in game. they drive and finally score on 4th down at that. Get onside kick with bout 2 minutes left and scores again to make final 48-31. Im a dog fan so take it for what its worth, just stating facts. I think this is going to be a VERY competitive game. State usually plays auburn well. They played them decent last yr and even had a chance to win game against CAM, with a far worse team. Im not playing either side tomorrow for what its worth, but NO WAY would fade the home team here. GL with your action!!!

I hear ya on all that but it still shows that the Miss St D is prone to mistakes to teams with lesser offenses than AU's. I'll grant that MSU will likely be the best D AU has seen but the same can be said going the other way. Despite the terrible game AU had at K State, they still won a tough game against a good team on the road on a Thursday night. I think both teams are good, but the big game experience will negate the home field advantage and AU's D and O are slightly better than Miss St's D and O. I think AU wins by 4, personally, but my point was not to get too high on Miss St. Just much safer plays this week, IMO, such as USC, Mizzou, Texas A&M, Oregon, etc. GL everyone.

After reading this thread, there is only one way to play this game and that is to not play it. PASS. There are more than enough better plays on the board.

Probably the smart move, as I posted earlier, SEC home dawgs are tough. That being said, this is a marquee matchup, I see Nick wanting some today. JMO, but everyone has one. GLTU
