WHAT WOULD HAVE BEEN THE RULING IN THIS SCENARIO:
SELIG HAD SAID PRIOR TO GAME THAT THERE WOULD BE
NO SHORTENED GAME--THERE WOULD BE A RAIN DELAY FOR 1 OR 2
OR MORE DAYS IF NECESSARY.

SO, SAY THERE ARE 5 COMPLETE INNINGS AND SCORE 2-1 PHILLIES
THEN A RAIN DELAY IS CALLED - NOT A SUSPENSION -
A RAIN DELAY - a 2 DAY DELAY AS IT TURNS OUT -BUT A RAIN DELAY NONTHELESS

IN THIS CASE IS THERE STILL A PAYOUT TO PHILLIES
OR NO PAYOUY UNTIL GAME CONTINUES, AS IT WAS NEVER
SUSPENDED JUST IN A LONG LONG RAIN DELAY

They would never wait for a day without suspending it.

Would think it would payout on Phils no matter what, ruling for baseball at all Vegas books is the winner will be who has the lead after 5 innings on the day the game is played, don't think it matters if a game is suspended or delayed

Unless there was specific wording on the bet like "game must go at least 9 innings" or "any rainouts or postponements will carry over to completion of game", then by the wording of the rule they have to revert to the original rule giving the Phillies the win.

There are other sports where games can continue on to other days: tennis and nascar being two prominent examples.

It is written in their rules.

Baseball, football, and basketball are all "date of" events. Meaning they must be played and completed on the date stated.

Football, basketball, and soccer all have suspended game rules in that the games must go a certain length of time to be considered official.

Baseball does as well, but is unique in that teams have individual at-bats that make up parts of their innings.

A couple examples from other sports where rules come into play:

-Power outage in a UNLV-Wisconsin game with 6 minutes to play. Wisconsin is awarded the win as they are up big, but for betting purposes it is a refund as all CFB game must go 55 minutes to be official.

-MLB games Cubs/Pirates and White Sox/Orioles where game was rained out and called after team batting in top had batted and score reverted to previous innings.

-Soccer match in South America where fans rioted with 4 minutes left and team up 4-0. Game must go 88 minutes to be official, therefore it is a push.

-Boxing match Juarez-Barrera where one fighter is named the winner by the announcer on the broadcast and they go off the air. Only to be changed the next day when there is a scorecard "error" discovered.
