As many of you know NBA Capper Brock has decided to take a free $100 account at Skybook for winning 7 straight BEST BETS. This will cause all WINNING streaks to revert to zero before tonight's action. Skybook has generously informed me that no LOSING streaks will be effected. In short if you have a losing streak going it stays in tact. All winnings streaks revert to zero. Please post any questions in this thread, and I will try to answer them. Good luck to all Skybook NBA BEST BET Cappers tonight, and thank you for your most valuable participation in this contest.

Wil.

PS. Thanks also to Jack of Hearts for the great work he is doing.

why do the losing streaks stay intact but the winning streaks go to zero?? this seems like the rules of the contest are changing for the worse. i thought the idea was to win not lose. if you are going to make winning 10 in a row harder since anyone can stop your streak after they have won 6 in a row the prize for winning 10 in a row should increase to 1500 or all streaks should resort to zero.why not just make the contest you have to win 10 in a row win or lose to get a prize period???

Green Monster, I will try to address your questions:

quote:
why do the losing streaks stay intact but the winning streaks go to zero??

Skybook Sportsbook made the ruling based on fair play. Afterall it was a winning streak that got the free account. I know no one would be happy if someone loses say 6 in a row, and takes a free $50 account, thereby causing someone with a long winning streak to revert to zero.

quote:
thought the idea was to win not lose

The idea behind and name of the contest is still NBA BEST BET, so natrually everyone wants to see winning Best Bets. The losing streak feature was added to increase the chances for Cappers to win free accounts from Skybook. Quite simply another way to win if anyone goes on a cold streak.

quote:
you are going to make winning 10 in a row harder since anyone can stop your streak after they have won 6 in a row the prize for winning 10 in a row should increase to 1500 or all streaks should resort to zero.why not just make the contest you have to win 10 in a row win or lose to get a prize period???

The original rules of the contest which still exist, set up a gradual increase in prize money for each winning streak. Starting at 5 and ending with a top prize of a $1000 free account for 10 straight winning Best Bets, now the same thing exists for losing streaks. I don't believe anything has changed from day one that makes it any harder to win prizes. Perhaps you can take a look at the original rules and get a better understanding of what I mean.

Rules

Hope this helps, good luck, Wil.

Wil......I know the rules are the rules, but It just doesn't make sense that the Winners must start over. We should be allowed to shoot for 10 wins. Yes he won fair and square, but I'm sure we could take a collection if he needs the dollar that much.

Cheater, Good points, but didn't you roll the dice on your big streak? I thought that was the idea of it.

My suggestion, for what its worth ... If someone wants to cash in, by all means give them the free account and set them back to 0. But instead of making all others start over, why not let all other streaks CONTINUE, both winning and losing? Why punish everyone else with streaks going, just for having the misfortune of getting hot at the same time as the player cashing? And someone please tell me the logic of letting losing streaks continue and winning streaks end? I realize players on losing streaks are TRYING to lose, but their streak should have no more value than another one's winning streak.

My guess is that the rule to start everyone again at 0 originally was added by Skybook to prevent themselves from getting pounded by having winner after winner cashing on a daily basis. I can understand that. If I was sponsoring this contest, this would be a legitimate concern of mine, too. The truth of the matter, though, is this hasn't happened. Why? Well, for one thing, hitting 10 straight is far more difficult than most realize (even for an elite capper, the odds are nearly 1 in 500). More importantly, though, most players on a streak have discovered that because the prize money increases so steeply with each win, it is more profitable to keep the streak going and hedge on the other side.

Bottom line - it's not like we're breaking the bank at Skybook with this contest. Don't get me wrong, I certainly appreciate them sponsoring it, but the truth is they've only given away $100 so far. Lets get some more winners by letting everyone's streak ride til they break it themselves.

MD Kid - The rule to end any streaks was never added, it is an original rule posted on Jan. 24th the day the contest started. The decision to let losing streaks continue was made today by Skybook in an effort to let more Cappers win free accounts. Please see my post above.

5. As soon as someone WINS, (either hits 10 in a row, or takes one of the lower amounts) the contest starts over for everyone. All contestants revert to zero consectutive wins.

To see the remaining rules that were posted at the beginning of the contest I have provided a link.

its threads like these that make it harder every day for us to get sponsors for contests.....

The book is giving away free money, and getting flack for it...

the rules did not change...the only reason the people with the losing streaks are continuing is that is was a winning streak that took the money.....

Now in 3 days, if a loser gets to 7 or 8, and quits, all the losing streaks will start over, and the winners wont......that makes sense...

by the way, GREAT JOB WILL, AND JACK OF HEARTS....

I agree with ya' 100%. SKYBOOK was generous enought to ....(a) Put on the Contest in the First Place ....(b) Give everyone a second option with the Losing streak record as well.

As for brock cashing out .... if he had an account with one or two or three of the Books, then it would DEFINITELY have been to his advantage to stay with the streak. But, he did not!

We still have plenty of time to start a new streak in the WIN column!!

WILHEIM & JACK of HEARTS.....
Keep up the Good Work & Thanks for your efforts.

Would it make everyone happier if I just took my measley $25 and then we can get the losers back to zero as well

Doesn't look good when you write stories and then give people fodder like a losing streak! Truth be told, I am now all messed up because I am trying to pick losers, but thinking maybe I should try to pick winners because they will become losers and if I pick a loser and it wins I will feel like a loser...or something like that!

md kid, gary phil., others; every read the parable about goose and golden egg. It was written esp. for people like ya'll. Please go back to grammar school if you don't understand. This is by far the best contest run; and the long term implications for both the book and capper are terrific. The rules were stated clearly and I love the pressure of it.

Unbelievable. I wasn't even gonna say anything until I read Wilhelm's note that ANY SUGGESTIONS ARE WELCOME. That is ALL THAT MY POST WAS - A SUGGESTION TO IMPROVE THE CONTEST. I wasn't giving flack to our sponsor - on the contrary I even noted my appreciation for their sponsorship.

If you truly want helpful suggestions, ask for them. If you get some that you don't agree with - a simple response such as "Thank you for your suggestion, we will be taking it under advisement" should suffice. On the other hand, if you really don't want any suggestions, then don't ask. With that in mind, please accept this as my sincere apology if I in any way hurt anyone's itty bitty feelings, here.
