A person I know in attendance at asroc said there were 67 heads and it was a one-day event and a first time one at that. Rivercity has been consistently raising their prices since their inception and their conference is a tried and true event. They have over 3,000 attend their conference. It is about the industry as a whole - so yes, way more value, way more networking opportunities, and it covers 3 days. A totally different scenario, venue, and organizers.
I think the point Tico was making is this: costa rica is an expensive place to hold a conference and a one day conference at $895 is a tad greedy especially on a narrow focus. Probably one of the reasons why it was not as well attended as one would have hoped.
