In addiiton to the great advice offered by SportsBookData, you should also be wary of a sports service which pumps/sells

picks of other cappers you never heard with UNDOCUMENTED records which seem to good to be true.

In the great majority of cases, the cappers cited do not even exist(and obviously their records do not either), and in reality are nothing more than

a means/opportunity for the guy spewing this stuff forth to hopefully get some people to by these picks.

In most cases these picks are the ones of the guy pumping them or perhaps from another capper on the site as a means of throwing out

another sets of pics hoping that they get hot and that people will buy them.

As an example and using by buddies at NC, I was told by a bona fide insider at NC that the alleged service Accupics, which is part of

the NC Community Line, is in reality not a service at all but rather a fabricated concoction of Phil Steele/NC, which merely takes the consensus

of other picks for that day from other services on the Community Line and sells them as an entity onto themselves.

I have written to NC in the past to respond to this allegation and never received a response.

I also find it interesting and telling that I have neither heard of Accupics nor have been able to find them by doing a search on the internet.

I am also very suspicious of The Swami with their zillion cappers, most of whom I can't find anywhere on the internet.

Lets leave it at that for now, although based on my following sports services since they essentially started in mid to late 70's, I could go

on with a lot more deceptions and bullshit I have seen over the years, which sadly for the most part still defines the sports handicapping industry.

Make sure the website is 100% transparent, meaning that all picks are available to view publicly immediately after the games start, 10-20 minutes is reasonable. Also, make sure you can view 100% of their picks history publicly at all times. Services who only show their last 50 or 100 picks DO NOT qualify as being transparent. Services who say "email us for a spreadsheet of our history" DO NOT qualify as being transparent.

People who seriously crush don't sell picks to 'their clients' they partner with them and smash their books. :)

I have seen websites who offer 30, 40 or more so-called handicappers as part of their menu. These sites are nothing more than handicapper warehouses and they don't care about anything except selling picks. They offer so many handicappers because they are trying to increase their odds that someone will always be hot which equates to sales and keeps the cash register ringing daily. So-called "sports monitors" also fall under the same category.

On the topic of sports monitors...
Sports monitors use "monitoring" as a "front" to sell picks. Can you say "conflict of interest". Monitoring requires the ability to be neutral, objective and unbiased. However, once compensation is taken for selling picks they no longer are any of these things, instead, they have a vested interest in seeing handicappers perform well so they can get paid, which leads to the potential of unethical practices. Some monitors may not sell picks directly on their websites but it doesn't mean they are not getting paid for you buying that handicapper's picks. The link you access from their websites are usually tracking links that get them paid. Creative but doesn't take away the conflict-of-interest. Also, have you ever seen monitors "feature" handicappers? RED FLAG! Most times the handicappers being featured are PAYING to be featured, and often times paying significant fees. Another major conflict-of-interest. And those monitors who may claim they do not take any compensation for featuring handicappers almost always have a bias to the handicappers they "feature". This is evident in the fact that they feature certain handicappers the majority of the time, despite their performance lagging those who are ahead of them in the standings. They avoid this bias publicly by putting creative twists on the featured handicapper. For example, they will say something like "7-1 L8 Picks" or "8-2 L10 NFL Picks", as if that is worth more to the web visitor or perspective buyer than someone who is ranked #1 for the entire season. Lastly, bet you didn't know that most "monitors" are actually owned by handicappers themselves. This is the biggest conflict-of-interest of all and immediately discounts their business and model. I have been around sports betting for a long time and can tell you there is no such thing as a sports monitor that is truly independent and, therefore, any results you see should be taken with a grain of salt.

This. Books only allow you to win so much. Guys who win big are looking for new books, not clients.

Bingo you are correct. Ill throw a caveat to this. For i stance a guy Jayson from Jayson sports picks. He does record every pick he plays. However he plays 10-12 picks a day. Well claimed he won 150 units for the year and December was his only losing month. Well its a pain in the ass to add up a months worth of plays well i picked October and he lost 90 units. I call him on it and nothing wont answer my emails anymore. Just a heads up a guy like this knows people arent going to take time to do this
Hes down 50 units already in January. But he is right pick a capoer that posts their plays. Good post Sportsbookdata

This is obvious, but I will say it anyways:

Beware of any service which pumps the likes of billion star locks, claims without documentation it has a 95-4 system play going, has multiple GOY,

advertises crap like the biggest bet of my career, is extremely arrogant in spite of being a perennial LOSER (what better example than LOSER Lang),

and Joe Blow Services which call you up on the phone, and especially so if they ask you right off the bat "How much can you move on a game today?"

The obvious reason for that is that so that can decide how much they can get away with charging you.

The list goes on and most of it has been already spelled out today in this thread.

Image is everything...
AVOID Handicappers who convey gangster-like or mobster-like images. This image is a reflection of how they run their business and ultimately how they will treat you as a customer. They are typically dishonest and unethical. These people watch too many movies and are not in touch with reality. Only consider services or handicappers who convey a very professional image because, again, this will most likely reflect in how they treat you as a customer. Professional services are typically honest and transparent. They are hard to find but they are out there.

"You get what you pay for"....
AVOID services who charge outrageous fees for their services. They want to believe you that paying more means better results, however, this is not true in the world of sports betting. The services who charge most typically deliver less with the vast majority, if not all, failing to deliver on their big promises, leaving the customer for broke. Professional services typically charge far less than touts because they view their customers as partners and treat them as such. These services provide high quality customer service and are readily available to advise and counsel along the way. Professional services typically don't need to aggressively seek new clients because people find them by being referred by existing clients. These service most often provide the best results too because they truly have a vest interest in their relationships. Paying the lowest prices and getting the best results is the ideal relationship for a customer.

I am going to add an asterisk to what was said in post 21 about seeking a service which acts very professional, etc.

While I agree with that in general, there are exceptions to the rule with one noteworthy example, being yeah you guessed it, Phil Steele/NC.

Anyone who has watched or heard Phil Steele on ESPN or read his writeups, would come away with the feeling that he is one

honest, polite, classy and nice professional handicapper, and that his NC is run 100% on the up and up.

In the NC thread I have completed wiped out this myth and what he and NC are about in this football season alone(let alone the three years ),

where I documented NC's records, the accompanying lies and the TOTAL UNPROFESSIONAL MANNER in which NC is run.

The same goes for his subservients , mostly notably Todd, who daily and dutifully carries out Steele's orders ad does his dirty work with lies, deceptions, etc.

To be blunt Phil Steele is a person I would define as the handicapping version of the "snake in the grass," in short a handicapper

who on the surface and upon whose first impression gives one a feeling of integrity and comfort, whereas in fact nothing

could be further from the truth.

You might say that this is the negative aspect of the old saying that "you can't judge a book by its cover."

I do not know if this is allowed but if its about finding a consistent handicapper then i already have one with a proven record legit website, giving out his POD's everyday on the website besides running his own google group, a lot of positive comments on twitter as well as on the website, does not exceed 2 units on any given play and has good comments on the website as well. Someone had started a thread on him on the websites promotion section and i have been carrying it forward. So those who are genuinely looking for a good handicapper should definitely consider him. I am posting the link to the thread here.

Im not sure how to say this if it is ok or not... but a friend of mine caught on to a service and paid the fee for a months service.. this service touted realistic numbers saying 63-65% overall.. he touted his players up 100+ units and all that..
Well since sign up the guy is down 64.6 units
he tweets very well... he spins things miraculously.. .like yesterday he had 3 10 unit plays and a lean which are 3 units... he tweets today about how his NCAAF is on a tear.. well thats the only game he won yesterday as his cbb and nba 10 units and 3 unit lean on cbb lost.. so overall he was -15.3 units yesterday.
He won his lean only on Sunday and it was his free post but he lost 35 units as his 7 POINT TEASE in nfl lost as did his college games..
I havent mentioned the service name... its funny because last weekend he had bad weekend I called him out on twitter and he blocked me.. shocker.. all i said was why do you keep saying you are winning when you have lost over all 3 straight days and put record..
thoughts here.....we emailed him and he said he didnt need the negativity... lol.. really... he also unblocked me but he doesnt think im a customer he thinks i am someone following him because my buddy signed up.

Such people are everywhere to be honest, most of them are scam artists that is the reason that the few genuine handicappers that are out there also get lost in the mix but these scum bags who are posting their 400 unit whale plays are busy scamming people, if you find a genuine handicapper, might as well stick to it.
