" We shall fight on the beaches. We shall fight on the landing grounds. We shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills. We shall never surrender!" -Winston Churchill June 4, 1940

" Let us therefore embrace ourselves to our duties and so bear ourselves that if the British empire and Commonwealth last for a thousand years, men will still say, this was their finest hour." Winston Churchill- June 18, 1940

" Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few"- Winston Churchill August 20, 1940

Thank you Mr. Churchill for those courageous words still true today in this fight. Thank you to the men and women of the allied forces willing to stand up to tyranny. Thank you Mr. Blair and Mr. Bush for leading a fight to remove a wicked tyrant which shall prevail now and in the annals of history!

Beautiful words from an incredible person.

Remember this was in the context of defending their countries from an imperialistic attacker (Hitler).

Much the same as the Iraqis defending themselves from an imperialistic attacker (Bush).

and remember churchill warned of the "gathering storm" of nazi germany......france and all of europe shut him out and shunned him...stuck their collective heads in the sand....much in the way many countries(france again in the lead)are again proceeding.....only this time, instead of a country with finite borders,a pitiful dictator and a formidable army(which we all have to agree germany was),the "gathering storm" is made up of rogue nations led by pitiful dictators, shadowy terrorist groups, religious fanatics that abuse women and their own peoples.....a pathetic mix of reprobates still mired in the religious zealotry and fanatacism of centuries past.....intent on acquiring weapons of mass destruction, blowing themselves up to achieve some fictional valhalla.....

yet many still insist on burying their heads in the sand, rather than nipping this evil in the bud......"an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure"....if one thinks this war inhumane and horrible, give a second of consideration to several nuclear weapons obliterating israel and potentially leading to ww3.....or to anthrax or smallpox unleashed in n.y.,washington and los angeles.......ridding a people of a dictator before the absolute worst scenario can become reality....and by doing so,freeing the people from the yoke of murdering dictator that absolutely no one,pro or anti war can deny is a blight on humanity.......

"those that do not learn from the past are doomed to repeat it"....

Bush was not elected by the majority of Americans and Gore cared more about America than he did being in the white house (again) so he did not fight it. If it were Bush, he would still be whining and pissing and moaning about it as would the right wing hypocrites...

For the record, Gore is too liberal for me (I am aginst having a huge government) but I believe that if he were the president the economy would still be rocking and there would be a Palestenian state and none of this would be happening.

BTW: How did you get the name "Spincter"? Is it from you youth or adult days?

sphincter, keep in mind the world was in a serious depression...according to capitalist beliefs, why would europe turn on Hitler to stand with Churchill? IBM certainly didn't

schill....it was meant to be funny....and it`s spelled with an "h"....it`s o.k. to resort to cheap shots when your argument is specious...better to let the intelligent guys do the debating....leave it to radiofree costa rica or lander...not a good idea for a guy, when asked why he was staring at an orange juice can explained,"it said concentrate"......

That is okay sphincter, I was not taking a cheap shot, just wondering what kind of person would give himself such a name? If it was an old nickname or some self realization... Remember I am shameless after all....

no sweat schill.....it`s a self-imposed curse i`ll just have to endure......a character building experience....i knew you`d understand..

Churchill warned over and over in the 1930's of the growing threat of Naziism and Facism in Europe. He was ignored. His great words and leadership would not be known today had someone stood up to threats and repression in 1930's Europe. No one did.

Thank you again Tony Blair, George Bush, John Howard, et all, who will stand up now and end the reign of a mass murderer who has started 3 wars already and wants nuclear weapons. duh....

Brave words from a bombed out city and beseiged country will not be neccesary from a US president in the near future if the world stays the course and rejects allowing mass murderers to attain weapons of mass destruction as the current coalition is willing to stand up and demand.

The rest of you cowards and ignorants ought to be ashamed at your lack of knowledge or courage on a subject of such importance.

Mr. Smith, Tony Blair is the reincarnation of Winston Churchill.

Schill, gore wouldn't have fought for the presidency because he had to much class????You got to be shitting me. How many fxckin recounts does 1 state get?I know 49 other states that didn't have their votes counted 6 or 7 times.
Supreme Court said he lost and that was the end of it.He couldn't have fought it if he wanted to.

I love the constant comparisons between Hussein and Hitler. Not even marginally accurate, as Hussein is much more of a Stalin.

I love the way dissenting opinion is automatically called "anti-Americanism" and often wonder if the utterers of such foolishness grasp the irony.

Here's some tidbits about Hitler for you. Think hard and see if you can draw a line between the tyrant of the past and any modern-day tyrants from the $ 9.99 All-You-Can-Live-Through Tyranny Buffet at Denny's.

1) On 27 February 1933 the German parliament was attacked, ostensibly by terrorists, and there was a big scary fire.

2) A rich foreign insurgent named Marinus van der Lubbe was arrested for the crime of being at the scene. After just a little bit of torture, which was recently permitted for foreign insurgents but still verboten to be used on Germans, van der Lubbe confessed to starting the fire.

3) "You are now witnessing the beginning of a great epoch in German history. This fire is the beginning." This is what Adolf Hitler had to say about the fire at the Parliament.

4) Less than a month after the terrorist attack the German parliament passed the Law for Terminating the Suffering of People and Nation, the second most euphemistically named piece of legislation that comes to my mind. Hitler and his administration were vested with nigh-deific powers.

5) The Decree of the Reich President for the Protection of People and State came shortly thereafter, which all but overtly abolished freedom of expression, freedom of the press, right of assembly and association, right to privacy of ****** and other communications, protection against unlawful searches and seizures, individual property rights, and German states' right of self-government.

6) Hitler demonised Czechoslavakia as a haven for Communist terrorists, and invaded it.

7) The nations of the world eventually wised up and grouped themselves against Hitler's Reich, ankling and all but destroying the country. The Germans were astounded that they could have ever supported such an idiotic and shameful regime, and went out and got jobs and their stifled economy boomed and for the most part things were finally back in order in the Fatherland.

Now, six out of seven of those points don't remind me of Saddam Hussein at all, but I can think of some ominous parallels to another blossoming young tyrant in our world today and it makes me wonder just how far off the seventh point might be.

I know that you'll decry me as "anti-American." I counter that I am far more a true American than yourself, because the near-total erosion of liberty and peace at that has befallen our country at the hands of those we entrusted to lead us makes me want to cry, and then go kick a policitian in the nuts a few times to see if I can't jump-start his brain.

Christ, the Censor-Matic (tm) works like the Oswald procession: ultra-tight security, unless you're a slightly boozed-up owner of a local titty-bar packing a .38

Phaedreous,

Hitler staged a fire to create hatred towards a group he wanted to quash, that is fact.

Comparing that to the attack at the world trade center is insane! I mean, honestly, that is one of the craziest things I ever read!

the rest of your post is valid as to the actions of Hitler, but you seem to be impying a connection or comparison is valid to the bush administration. that is so ****ing crazy!

I mean I hate grantt with a passion but none of his/her/its senseless ramblings try to make any connection to sanity, reality or sense. you are trying, my god, where did you dredge up this insanity?

I am duly shocked. I quoted some words of courage and defiance of tyranny when bad news was coming out of Iraq a few days ago and the thread has deteriorated to where I have to defend the US from comparisons to nazi Germany....

If you are on the fence as to the utter insanity of those who oppose this action of defeating a mass murderer who wants nukes, please wake up.

the nutballs I cannot help.

I'm at a loss for words now.....

unbelievable!!!!

Now, I will stipulate that I do not for an instant believe or suspect that President Bush or anyone else in the adminsitration staged the 9/11 terrorist attacks, as was almost certainly the case with the Nazis at the time of the attack on the parliament. Just to be clear.

Also, the Churchill quote of 4 June 1940 has always been one of my favourites of his orany other statesman of this century. He was a true poet-warrior, that one.

As far as comparing Bush to Hitler vs. comparing HUssein to Hitler, I stand by the points made above. I see ominous parallels between the Law for Terminating the Suffering of People and State and USA-PATRIOT ... even if the ideological principals behind the leaders differ, the net result will be the same.

Bush isn't bright enough to be a tyrant, but he's camera-friendly enough to be a figurehead and he's got some real Sheiskopf's working "for" him in his cabinent.
