BANK IT before it starts!
I know I lost on the Orioles yesterday and it was probably a dumb bet in the end seeing how they suck on Sundays and I completely failed to recognize that ahead of time but nonetheless I am up some huge money with my $5000 wagers having gone 6-2 since I started posting them. This is how I make my money and this is where I make my living. I am a big unit player, almost always have been and have spent a lot more time capping games in recent weeks than I had the last few months combined for all other sports. My capping ranges from everything to soccer, hockey, baseball, horse racing, boxing, football, basketball...whatever I can get my hands on really.
Alright before you all go wasting your cash on the Seattle Mariners, please understand that although I was ready to pound away on a 5k wager against John Lackey a few nights ago when I bet on the Texas Rangers (Lackey was ejected after two pitches in the game). Nonetheless I won and I think that under the current circumstances and considering what happened in that game, Lackey and the Angels are going to be ready to play some ball tonight. The Angels had to travel and they might be a bit tired but they are back out West where they are comfortable and Lackey is probably fired up after what happened in that game. The State of Texas is home for Lackey and I'm sure he is a big distracted when he plays there. However, if you take a look at the way this guy has pitched in Seattle the last few years, you are 100% betting on this with me:
Los Angeles Angels ML -114
Alright let's get right into this. If you don't believe me about the mad streak John Lackey is on right now when playing games in Seattle, you better stick around for a bit and ready what I have to say about this. Seattle is coming off a tough home series with the Boston Red Sox and although they held their own well and although they won two games, they had to win those games late and they could have easily come out of that series without a single win. The Mariners are not one of the best batting lineups in the American League and unlike when I bet against Lackey in Texas the other night, the Angels willy veteran gets to face a Mariners lineup that is:
Ranks (14 teams in AL)
#12 in Batting Average in the AL
#13 in Slugging Percentage
#14 in On Base Percentage
#13 in Runs Batted In
#12 in Home Runs
#12 in Hits
#12 in Runs Scored
So my point here is that I was willing to go against Lackey the other night while he was facing one of the best batting lineups in all of baseball. The Seattle Mariners are one of the most pathetic batting lineups in the Majors and although he has not pitched in Months and although he has missed the first six weeks of the season, Lackey is going to have a much easier time managing this outing than he would have the one in Texas. Who knows...maybe he was trying to hit Ian Kinsler but nonetheless it doesn't matter because now we know we are getting a comfortable John Lackey and to me that is very important for a guy coming off the DL. Even small mistakes will be forgiven tonight against an offense that cannot cash runs in for their lives. So John Lackey loves pitching in Seattle...doubt that? Check this out:
John Lackeys last 3 outings in Seattle
Aug. 27, 2007 - 9.0 IP, 7 Hits, 0 ER's, 5 K's, 6-0 win (Complete Game Shutout)
Jul. 31, 2007 - 9.0 IP, 7 Hits, 0 ER's, 5 K's, 8-0 win (Complete Game Shutout)
May 16, 2007 - 6.0 IP, 4 Hits, 0 ER's, 4 K's, 5-0 win
Wow what more can I say about the way Lackey pitches in this city? Should he not find a way to sign with the Mariners when the time comes to move away from the bright lights of Los Angeles. So he is 3-0 in his last three starts in Seattle with a perfect ERA of 0.00, 14 strikeouts and two complete games. What more do you want me to tell you here? Jarrod Washburn is on the mound for the Mariners tonight and although he is off to one of his best season starts in ages, you have to expect things to go South from here as the veteran has shown signs of letting up in recent weeks and the Angels bats are absolutely starving for some offense. Washburn was already lit up once by the Angels this season on the road. I know Washburn already has a dominating performance against the Angels at home but again they saw him 11 days later and lit him up for 6 ER's.
Washburn First 3 Starts: Seattle went 3-0
Wasburn Last 4 Starts: Seattle is 0-4
So as you can see the Mariners are just not playing well for their pitcher and he has not exactly been all that consistent either. Some more interesting facts and trends about tonight:
You have to expect both teams are going to have their shot at the bullpens and I will take my chances with the Angels pen who are due for some decent performances. Their ERA in the last 10 games is down to 4.36 which is a lot better than they had been playing and I thought they did a decent job against the Rangers considering they have a tremendous offense. The Mariners are a big dropoff in class for this bullpen so expect better.
Seattle is batting .232 in their last 10 games
Los Angeles is batting .282 versus lefties in their last 10 games
There is no fucking around tonight for an Angels team that just got swept in Texas.
