As Christmas approaches, is anyone here donating their time (not money) to a charity or homeless shelter?

I am asking this because it is has been years since I have done this, and I forgot how good it felt. I spent a day at a homeless shelter handing out small gifts and food to a group of very nice and appreciative people several years ago when I lived in Manhattan. It left feeling great, and went on to have a wonderful year. I am not saying that one should do this in order to have better Karma, I am saying it is nice to give something back while expecting nothing in return. Call me a corny geek, but I am doing it again this year, and hopefully I will be less self absorbed and do this every Christmas until I pass. Happy Holidays to all, and I hope that all of your bowl games go well.

I do it several times a year, last night
my brother, my son, and I helped package
and deliver christmas presents for the
less fortunate.I've taught my son to
help the elderly in our neighborhood
by doing small things that make their
lives a little easier, like bringing their
newspapers to their front doors and shoveling
their walkways ( 2 very nice things on a cold
minnesota morning). When i hear him say "no
thanks, it makes me feel good to help people"
when they offer him money, I get the same
feeling inside like I just hit a 2 team parley.

Since I will be alone for X-mas...I am looking for something charitbale to do...

I thought to play Santa at the children's hospital but not sure what safety or security measures one must go thru to do that...

I am open for ideas..anything beats stuffing ones self when other have nothing to be merry about.

Anyone in Vegas? Wanna get together?

I have done nothing for the homeless. but i have dontated to salvation army outside local super markets.

one thing i did do was donate my Skymiles to Heromiles.org.

This site is for the troops. there is only a select amount of cities the military will fly the soldiers into, from there they are one their own to get home. some tickets cost as much as $1,000. so someone set up this site for people to donate skymiles to. there are about 6 airlines in right now. i had about 30K miles, i could have used it to fly home to see my family, but this is the least i could do for the boys fighting for our freedom

Vegasguy - fly to Florida and you can have Christmas at my house. No one needs to be by themself unless they want to be on this day.

Bob - great to hear, you seem like the kind of guy to help others. Props.

Unfortunately I haven't done one thing this year to help anyone for Xmas....

Does a major toy round-up for poor, ( I mean dirt in the street poor) kids here in Costa Rica. My contributations are usually only financial, and a little holding my finger on the ribbons when she wraps them. She has a photo scrap books of kids going back several years. Their faces are priceless when you see them open the presents. I think she still needs 28 toys as we speak, to meet her promised contribution. She will make it, I'm sure.

I am nothing but a selfish, fat fuk. I at least have the balls to admit it. I never give anything to charities, never offer my time, only think about gambling and chicks. Your posts have made me think about what a hedonist I am. I am going to do something good this year. Enough is enough. Perhaps if i don't think about myself for once, some good things might happen to me. 2003 sucked.

Panther, that's great - but this year you should just pay the money you scammed this past year - it makes the most sense.
