There goes the Pacers' title run.

I expect the Pacers and Players Union will try and appeal.

Sad day for the organization.

I guess Artest will have plenty of time to work on his musical career.

does anyone know. If a player is on suspention for fighting does he still get paid. I'm sure they do but that would be great if they didn't.

Ind. will probably be a good team to bet against for a while. With the suspentions and the guys that are hurt The unders will look good with only 6 players playing.

Won't the books take that into consideration?

This is a great move by Stern ...

Artest is in need of some anger mgmt training before he kills someone ....

He knew what he was doing Friday nite ... and now he has the time off he wanted and this is more like it .. this hand slap on the wrist that MLB does is laughable

Stern is the best commissioner in sports today and I applaud this suspension ...

In contrast to the NFL, NBA and NHL, baseball teams generally have paid players during suspensions for misconduct on the field. Chicago Bulls forward Dennis Rodman, for example, lost approximately $1.1 million in pay when NBA commissioner David Stern suspended him for 11 games last January.

From what I hear they won't be paid. Much like Sprewell didn't when he chocked the coach. If that is correct look at these numbers.

Jackson makes $4,900,000 this year. He will lose $1,792,682.90 of it.

O'Neal makes $14,782,500 this year. He will lose $4,506,859.70 of it.

Artest makes $6,157,859 this year. He will lose $5,482,028.40 of it.

So Artest will make a little over $600,000 this year. minus whatever he has to pay in lawsuits. He better hope his rape record sells.

what would really be refreshing would be to see billy hunter and the union stop acting like enablers for these players and stand with Stern on this. Unfortunately, the union is like everyone else in this country...hardly anyone ever accepts responsiblity for his/her own actions anymore, it's always someone else's fault...

Stern is only concerned about his own legacy. He was just catering to the mainstream media instead of taking his time and fully investigating this.

Stern has been a terrible commissioner. All he did put his nose up Michael, Magic and Larry's a$$es and milk them for all they were worth.

I don't like Artest personally, but this way too excessive. I guarantee you if the Lakers, Knicks or some other major media market team were involved with this, they would not have gotten near the amount of suspensions. Stern doesn't give a damn about the fans, especially small-market team fans like the Pacers.

Did all 3 deserve suspensions? Of course. However, why have only the players been punished? Why haven't the fans involved been punished? Pacer fans and season-ticket holders have been punished more than the fans involved. Why has there been no accountability for the poor police work and security at the Palace?

Stern should have asked himself how many other players in the NBA would have done the same thing as Ron, Stephen and Jermaine did? I bet at least half the league would have done the same exact thing. The NBA can't have it both ways: marketing this thuggish, hip-hop, self-absorbed culture and then punish those who buy into it.

Just my 2 cents,

This type of suspension was completely justified and long overdue.

Let this be an example to the rest of the league that this type of conduct will not be tolerated, the players will not be coddled and given a slap on the wrist for being loose cannons.....

I just hope that the union sees to it that a handful of overpaid hotheads don't get to dictate to the rest of the NBA what will be tolerated and what can be gotten away with....

Hey I go to COllege games every year, and now this year I am looking forward to taking my 5 year old son to a Boston College hoops game

Going to a cletics game....never cross my mind. There is no positive example in the NBA. it is all about seeing a big highlight

It has always been a "R" rated event

Can't we ALL just get along?!!

I can't believe what a bunch of freaking irrational pussies the majority of you are.

I'm not defending Artest's going into the crowd --- that was just stupid --- but the penalty does not fit the crime. Artest goes into the crowd, grabs the guy he thinks threw the cup by the back of the neck and pulls the guy onto ground. Artest didn't hurt the guy (and he could have snapped the guy in half like a toothpick) or throw a single punch until another guy sucker-punched Artest twice in the back of the head --- at which point Artest most certainly had the right to defend himself. Same deal with the guy Artest clocked on the court. That guy, wearing a PISTONS jersey, walked toward Artest with his hands raised. The guy shouldn't have been there and had a menacing demeanor, and Artest had every reason to defend himself.

If anyone deserved to get suspended for the season, it's Stephen Jackson. Jackson charged into the stands and IMMEDIATELY started throwing punches. He wasn't involved in the initial "fight" (with Ben Wallace) or the "ice incident", but he can go charging into the crowd and start hitting people and only get 30 games? It's a freaking farce --- like most of your brilliant opinions.

WRONG MOOKIEOO, Ron Artest did NOT have a right to (defend ?) himself. What he should have done is nothing. Then you let security come in , remove the fan or fans involved, then let the authoritys either fine or take legal recourse.

Stephen Jackson got off light, He should be gone for the entire season also.
