well in this case BOTH guys already had criminal records so scum of the earth fits.

If you want to look at the black/white race angle can you post a story about a white guy robbing/raping and killing a black college student or how about a white guy killing his black girlfriend or wife like that Bobby Cutts guy did. I'd like to see a story calling a white guy that has done a similar crime and yet called a troubled youth or lost soul

I am pretty sure the media won't be blaming Kayne West or the video game Grand Theft Auto as a cop out like the did for the Columbine kids when the blamed Marilyn Manson and the old computer game Doom.

Besides I would like to see a black woman dump her kids in the lake or drown them in a bathtub and see her get medical treatment like those white women got.

Lets face it statistics show that the nature of crimes vary from race to race based on your upbringing. A black teenager is more likely to rob and kill at a liquor store for drug and clothes money just like a white teenager is more likely to shoot up the entire science lab because some girl rejected him or he was picked on by a couple of kids. However the media portrays the criminals under a different light.

I see the same headlines all the time...

"African American male shoots and kills 2 people in an attempted robbery." Society reaction is "What else is new"

"An armed male gunman shoots and kills 10 people and 20 other people injured then gunman takes his own on life on the campus of the local University. Details are still sketchy.
Society reaction "He was very quiet, kind of a loner" (Notice how the media never reports a description of the gunman right away when the person is Caucasian. LOL!!!!!!!

Please post an example of that headline that "you see all the time". I have never seen any headline ever listing a perp's race like that.

Even in this UNC student case, most stories I saw never even mentioned the suspect's race in the story even when they were circulating the picture from the ATM and it was hard to see.

Atwater was convicted of felony breaking and entering in 2005 and illegal possession of a firearm in 2007.

The family of the victim should be able to sue the state of North Carolina and the judge that gave these punks suspended sentences.

After trial, if guilty, both these defendants should immediately hanged in the the towns public square.

i am embarrassed to be called a north carolinian right now, the justice system failed not only this young lady but the taxpayers as well. i certainly hope when the greiving process ends they do exactly as you've suggested, i've emailed 3 media outlets to insist they try and attain an interview with the members of the system involved in these young men's punishment over the last 3-5 yrs. important to note only their "adult" criminal record is mentioned as their juvy crimes are sealed!

Police charged Lawrence Alvin Lovette Jr., 17, of Durham, with first-degree murder in the death of Abhijit Mahato hours after he surrendered in the death of UNC student body president Eve Carson.

t was not immediately clear how, or if, the two cases were connected. The Duke and UNC campuses are less than 10 miles apart, and it appeared robbery was involved in both deaths. Mahato's wallet and cellphone were gone, and authorities have said the two suspects in Carson's death were caught in surveillance photos trying use her ATM card. Mahato, 29, originally of Tatangar, India, was a doctoral student in computational mechanics. He was found shot to death inside his apartment a few blocks south of Duke's campus in January. One arrest had already been made in his death: Stephen Lavance Oates, 19, is being held without bond on charges of murder and of robbing 18 people, including Mahato.



Police had been searching for suspects in Carson's death since the 22-year-old was found lying in a street about a mile from the Chapel Hill campus last week. The biology and political science major from Athens, Ga., had been shot several times, including once in the right temple.
Carson's death led to a massive outpouring of grief at North Carolina. The school's Board of Trustees offered a $25,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in her death, and police received hundreds of tips.
Authorities focused their investigation on several ATM and convenience store surveillance photos that showed a suspect trying to use Carson's card.
Lovette and Demario James Atwater, 21, were charged Wednesday with first-degree murder in the Carson case. Atwater made an initial court appearance Wednesday. Shackled at the ankles and waist, and with a public defender at his side, Atwater only whispered "yes" when asked if he understood the charges against him, and was ordered held without bond.
Oates' attorney, Brian Aus, did not immediately return a message seeking comment. The Orange County Public Defender's office said Atwater and Lovette had not yet been assigned attorneys.
Police believe Lovette was pictured in two photos taken at the ATM, driving Carson's Toyota Highlander while Atwater is in the back seat. Police also believe Atwater was the suspect shown trying to use Carson's ATM card inside a convenience store. Authorities haven't said if money was successfully removed from the account.
Lovette surrendered around 4:16 a.m. Thursday after authorities received a tip around midnight he was inside a Durham home, police Lt. Robert McLaughlin Jr. said.
Lovette also was charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon in Mahato's killing. Separately, he was charged Thursday with misdemeanor larceny, communicating threats, contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile and common law robbery.

enough with being lenient with criminals.

its time to start at the root of the source and get punks like these guys off the streets before they harm others.

if some gang leaders, punks, and other various criminals have to be put to death to solve the problem, its a small price to pay for safer neighborhoods.

this nc story is only one example of it.

saw on news a 17 yo kid that wasnt in a gang, was gunned down in la because he was asked about gang affiliation. the kids mother was serving in iraq when her son was murdered. the kid was a great student and football player.

as far as im concerned, any known leaders of street gangs that are definitely involved with criminal activities, should be apprehended and killed.

instead, these guys walk around flashing colors, ink, wearing clothes known to be gang type items, robbing, stealing, dealing drugs, harming others, making some neighborhoods worse than a war zone. all the while, they are idolized for being what they are.

after a handful of them were shown having their brains plastered into jail cell walls via a .45 bullet, i think the fascination with being in a gang would be reduced.

if not, rewind and repeat until they are either exterminated or the fascination wears off.

agree woof.......watching just tv shows(not reality i know) and you see cops make deals with the leaders of gangs to sacfrice a guy for a murder or whatnot instead they should hall him in(or if they can dump him in a ditch) and solve a bigger problem....but there is no money or safety in that for the cops so they like it the easy way
