In a game likely to be decided by rushing and rush defense, I'll go with the nations 28th rated rush Defense (Navy) over Army, probably pulling off the upset here as well. Both teams rank similarly in rushing but Navy's defense is superior to Armys which ranks 113th in rush defense.

Not sure how you folks are seeing Navys defense as being any better than Armys

For the season

Army has allowed an ave. of 107 yds rushing and 190 passing
Navy has alowed an ave of 99 yds rushing and 240 passing

Am I missing something?

Army ranks 131st nationally in passing and 110th in scoring offense, but ranks 10th in rushing, with 209 yards on average per game on the ground. Navy is 132nd in passing, 122nd in scoring, and 14th in rushing, with 200.5 yards each time out. You see where this is going. The one big difference? Army is 113th in rush defense, while Navy is a very respectable 28th in that department nationally.

Those stats are widely available on ESPN, and SI.Com, seen it in a few articles and rankings and when your comment came up i did a simple google of the terms "navy 28th rush defense" which is what ive been seeing all over and further this article came up also citing the stat and rankings: https://www.si.com/fannation/colleg.../army-navy-football-game-2023-prediction-pick

Further, from the eye test as someone who played defense in HS and college, Navy's defense has more ability to get stops in key situations (3rd/4th and short/goal-line situations) esp rushing short yardage when they stack 8/9 in the box vs Army's.

Now in TOTAL defense, which is what you are confusing this with, they are very similar, with Navy ranked 51 and Army 53. In every category defense related, and with the eye test, Navy wins out on that side of the ball. Doesnt mean they will win but in these games Defense usually decides the victor. Not the offense. https://www.ncaa.com/stats/football/fbs/current/team/22/p2

Further, here I drilled down to rush defense which also illuminates the stat above (NAVY #28, Army 113 in rush defense, heck army doesnt even make the list they are so bad!). What did i miss here? https://www.ncaa.com/stats/football/fbs/current/team/24

The #s say they are equal , I dont place great faith in rankings because they are usually formulated by talking heads

If you break it down further, the run defenses are pretty equal. Navy padded their stats vs a #60, #74, #82, #111 and #121 rushing offense. The worst rushing offense Army faced was #86, #69, #63 and #47. Everyone else was top 30 in the nation

I basically bet Navy every year as my pop was in the Navy from 1951-1955 sailed all over the world. Google the USS Allegheny, it's still a commissioned ship in San Juan Puerto Rico 🇵🇷

Uncle Sams misguided Child reserve for a brief time years ago before doing govt work in DIA before having an epiphany i hated govt. LOL Pops was in Navy also (BUD/Seal) very late 60's/early 70's think he was in one of the first 10 classes.
