Back to the question raised by the OP. The mistake we all tend to make is that voters actually understand issues, they don't. The democratic base consists of people who vote for a living, they're not voting about the stuff we debate. The democratic party is a coalition of special interests, they want something from government.
And democratic politicians take advantage of that ignorance. That's why they create wedge issues to divide us. Republicans are white supremacists, they're sexist, they're serial rapists now, they're high school bullies, they're selfish white men.
Collectively, the dumbest shit people can think, yet the democratic flock swallows whole without reflex and regurgitates.
All of this enabled by our criminal corrupt colluding treasonous always lying democratic media. If they had a shred of objectivity and dignity, our world would be radically different , and in a good way
