I would like some information. Are threats of physical violence allowed in the Prescription? Yesterday Lander was threatened with bodily injury in the political forum in very graphic and hostile terms. Can we laugh it off as "it's just the internet, don't sweat it." I myself would not feel comfortable receiving a threat..Threats of physical violence, even in cyberspace should be taboo. Posters here all think highly of Lander, and he is a quasi employee of the Prescription. I love the Rx, but I am not putting up with THIS nonsense. Who's to say Lander isn't looking over his shoulder at this very moment.I move for the permanent and immediate banning of posters who offer threats.Maybe I'm being quixotic here. Bookmakers have been threatened with bodily harm many times here.

exilarch,

I have been threatened a few times (Various issues), especially email. Been wished bodily harm on & death upon a few times. We can remove if we need, but the political forum is mostly an unmoderated room, unless posters, like you, have a problem.

I just think that physical threats are an impediment to the free exchange of ideas.

I agree, it really shouldn't matter what forum this takes place in. I would say that he should at least be warned that it will not be tolerated.

Physical Threats are a showing of weakness by your opponent. Maybe not physically, but mentally

Strange as this sounds (or maybe not so strange) the political forum is more vicious than the Rubber Room. Lots of sticks and stones posting, and like General says, mostly un-moderated. I agree with exilarch that physical threats are an impediment to free exchange of ideas. FWIW. I will try to keep an eye on any kind threatnening posts, and act accordingly.

I do not doubt that Slim. I remember the "limiting post count per day" very well. LOL

Good ol' times

quote:
Are threats allowed in the RX?

They should not, it will bring unwanted heat on the Rx AND the posters.

This joint should whack all the name callers before it escalates. The posters should be trained to say "your posts sux", not "You suck!" as an example. Because once that is allowed then the poster getting put down should be able to return fire.

There are too many dikheads here who can't talk about anything without 3rd grade name calling.

exilarch,

In the thread I think you're referring to, the tough guy talk went both ways and so the threats were more or less mutual. In this case I don't think the emphasis is on the threat vs. no threat issue, but rather the personal attack vs. discussing the topic issue. I would need to see a totally unprovoked threat on an innocent party before I would consider any overall countermeasures against threats per se.

Recommended mod action -- one warning followed by a move to the rubber room.
