are those offensive foul calls in Cal-Hawaii legit?

as a disclaimer i'm a cal fan but i think i'm fairly balanced observer in general. i can look at a replay and tell my honest opinion. it's no big deal.

those offensive foul calls on brown just seem bogus.. the defender is moving like crazy..... color man talks about how lateral movement is ok if you are primary defender. that's news to me (although he knows alot more than me). but the defender is moving backwards too.

to be fair, hawaii deserves to be winning and they've had some ofoul calls too and some travelling calls too.

but i''m shocked by that latest OF calls, the one before too although they didn't show replay..

thanks advance for any feedback :)

Brown needs to go pro. Those aren't offensive fouls in the NBA, college is dumb.

2nd half leans? I'm on CAL myself.

probably makes sense but CAL hasn't been good at all today ....... bird AND wallace being out is crippling... wallace = best player but bird was a top 20 recruit and really came on this season (his junior year)..... realistically need brown to step up 2nd half. matthews will be there but that's one guy so hawaii can cover him closely

I think they are iffy calls. This whole game has been a trainwreck from an officiating standpoint. I don't understand why they won't let these kids play. Who wants all these fouls called? Nobody enjoys it especially in the most important game of the year.

That said, I have seen a lot of Jaylen Brown this year. The last several games he has been out of control when he plays and is making terrible decisions. He has not been playing well and is trying to force things instead of letting the game come to him. He cost Cal wins vs Arizona and Utah down the stretch.

One last thing about the charge. Refs have been calling an extreme amount of charges this year (most of them bad calls in my opinion). I don't understand it but it leads to flopping and has made the game worse. But charges have been called a lot all year pretty consistently (badly)

thanks... great response.... i pretty much agree that i hate the officiating but that is consistent and probably the players should know the way they call things....

i was an NBA season ticket holder for years. the officiating drove me nuts even when it helped our home team, which was much of the time (as refs i think favour HFA).. FYI, it was raptors and chris bosh. not sure he got fouled even 50% of the time they called it.

in fairness to cal, they are missing arguably their 2 top players..............

i follow cal really closely but don't see too many games. i think brown is very overrated relative to his actual play this season. he was 1st team pac12 i read. but his effective FG% is not good, nor is his FT%. wallace wasn't so hot this year either, but he was injured. brown is only a freshman so i cut him alot of slack

i think they named him 1st team all pac12 partially so big time recruits might foresake K/K/duke/NC and play at P12 school... FYI. i never clicked through to make sure brown as 1st team pac12 is factually correct.

i now understand the college ofoul and nba ofoul is quite different... it seems in the NBA the defender has to have perfect position and not be moving, whereas college you can just jump in front of the offensive player.

i think i would have started this thread if the situation was reversed. i.e. hawaii O on cal D. i just couldn't believe those calls but it partially turns out i don't understand NCAAB vs. NBA...

thx again :)
