I only ask because I was watching a video here someone posted about I think his name was Bill Cooper and he was talking about militias and patriots that are ready to go when ever the shit hits the fan and take on the goverment like back in the day when when the states started the revolution.

Now that I'm thinking about it I was watching Glen Beck a few weeks ago and he was talking some bullshit about a revolution probaly going to start in Texas but I think that was just his way of scaring people into not voting for the dems.

Also this would explain a lot about your gun laws.

No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms. The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.

-Thomas Jefferson

i personally feel much more safer in america knowing tons of law abiding citizens who really care for this country own guns

and guns are a deterrent to crime in that criminals never know if there is a gun present or not

reason most shootings happen at malls and colleges is because they are wide open easy targets with no or very little guns in the hands of good guys

take away guns from the good guys and the bad guys will be more likely to partake in crime as they don't have to worry about running into somebody with a gun

the bad guys will always find a way to get guns people still find drugs and found alcohol during the prohibitions etc....

You would think that a right-wing militia would be a bit top-heavy command wise. After all most of the proponents in here are not veterans but draft dodgers.

if shit does ever really hit the fan punter

you'll be thankful for the "right wing" militias

they are a deterrent to the kooks worries about government coming in and throwing us into FEMA camps and such :)

go to some SE asia country or something where its very hard to own a gun

criminals just drive around on motorcycles with machetes robbing people and stuff in broad daylight

Interesting Tiz although I think things have changed since Thomas Jeffersons time.

And as for your point everyone should have guns. Around here not many people have guns apart from hunting rifles and shotguns not many handguns or ak-47s or crazy shit like that. Now as for crime around here in hold ups the weapon of choice is a knife because people dont have handguns although the other day someone tried to hold up a subway with a broom handle but no one gets killed or even hurt. So if you let everyone have guns I'm pretty sure there would be a lot more killings.

i'm a big fan of them personally they are necessary in case shit really hits the fan and it becomes the people vs. the government type battle

the media paints them as big time KKK black hating groups while there might be some truth to that

they aren't going out and physically harming people etc....

all i know is if obama comes in and tries to restrict gun ownership in a big way

things are gonna get a bit crazy :)

Interestingly, there is a lot less crime in all the other Western countries with stricter gun laws...

crime and violence is a big part of american culture....its glorified......part of its history

you don't have thugish ruggish life being promoted in canada and shit of that nature

if you took away guns from the good guys in america it wouldn't be pretty

If you dont have handguns of course you wont have the murders, but in some cases in countries like England crime is actually worse then the US just not in violet crimes. So the question is do you want less petty crime and more violent or vice versa? I agree with Tiz, in that the thought of someone being armed makes you less inclined to commit a crime but it also puts more guns on the street and that will no doubt create more deaths. I would be fearful to not having the right to own a handgun in a country where i know the criminals are surly still carrying them. I mean most violent crimes are not committed with licensed firearms anyway. Its kinda like gambling over investing in the stock market. If im going to gamble with my money (life) at least i know i have some control over it (guns) and its not left to total strangers. As far as militias, they have been disbanded for decades now. When shit hits the fan the last thing the power in place wants is organized resistance, think about it.

if you take out all the inner city crime of idiots killing each other over stupid shit

the numbers are likely the same if not lower than most other countries

like say an area like iowa where i'm at lots of people own guns and crime is very low

a city like saint louis is dubbed one of the most dangerous cities and about every night on your tv you'll see some black on black crime etc....

but the suburbs are very safe

the whole problem with crime in america is a cultural issue

not a gun control issue

I call bull shit...it least there is no proof that its because of stricter gun laws.

I already know where this is going.

The areas of America were Prohibition is most strictly enforced are the only areas of significantly high levels of "violent crime".

Strict enforcement of Prohibition ensures violence among competing dealers.

And the basis of Prohibition itself is what financially empowers the illicit dealers.

Take away the illicit drug market from street dealers and while it won't eliminate inner city crime, they'll be far less for them to stake their lives on via the use of physical violence against their neighbor.

That's why we in fact see regular incidents of violent crime between residents of inner city and not often do we see violent crime between residents of low income Podunk, IA.

You do realize how much money is in the Drug wars dont you? You want your economey further fucked up? We have lawyers, judges, DEA, Cops, ATF, Probation officers and dont forget the Prison industrial complex to support. How "unamerican" are you? Jeez, it almost sounds if this perpetuated myth (War on drugs) is a war that is winnable or moral. but hey at least we have beer and smokes. Keep fucking killing the millions each year from those, because that only supports.... Hmm maybe these (alleged) wars are all just an excuse to spend more money we dont have and borrow, or maybe they are never made to be own just sustained.... or

:think2:

true i agree the drug war takes some of blame (that falls under the "cultural" category IMO) for crime rates in america (which is highly concentrated in the inner cities) vs. other western countries

that said

my point is restricting gun ownership isn't the solution.. :)

like the DC gun ban that got slapped down by the supreme court thankfully

once the ball starts rolling it can eventually spread to "low income podunk, ia" :)

also even in low income podunk, ia people still do illegal drugs and there is a trade involved with it

hell we got a huge meth trade with people getting supplies from farms and such

but people aren't shooting each other over it like they are in the inner cities....or at least as much

so in that sense that's where the culture of things comes into play

the inner city crime problem isn't just about drugs it runs much deeper

people shoot each other over many other things than just drugs
