Are the Brewcrew happy with CC trade now?

I know they got to postseason for first time in years ONLY because of CC, but now they will lose CC and Sheets (likely to lose sheets as well) and have to hope Gallardo and Parra can carry them, and even with the two of them they need a lot of help especially in the bullpen.

For a cash strapped team that gave 50M they gave to Gagne is looking like the worst signing in recent memory (even worse than Andruw Jones since that was a two year deal)

So if Laporta turns into a mini Grady Sizemore, hte Brewers ended up big losers here.

why wouldnt they be happy? he goes 9-1 and they would be mad b/c he didnt pitch well, even though it was the 4th time since he's been with the team that he pitched on short rest?

i guess they forgot to look at last years playoffs when he forgot to show up also. and remember, he was the cy young winner. no better example that the cy young goes to the best pitcher during the regular season.

It was a bad deal at the time and it was even worse in the season, but it's only a one year deal and is far from the worst free agent signing in "recent memory."

As far as Sabathia goes, Ryan Braun came out yesterday and said: "I’m not going to tell you what he said specifically but I know he enjoyed it here," Braun said. "He likes the guys on the team. He recognizes that we’re going to be good for a while, too. I don’t think he’ll take a discount financially but he might take less years for the same amount of money, which makes it less risk, less commitment from the organization."

Sheets will be gone, but that's the right move. Signing him to any sort of a long term deal could cripple a team like the Brewers. Get the picks and call it a day.

Sabathia in the National League is a different story. If, like Braun indicates, the Brewers can lock him up, they'll have gone about this process to perfection.

You get the picks for Sheets, you sign Sabathia long term and have yourself a hell of a core for the next 5-6 years.

I don't think Sabathia will stay. The Yankees have too much money to offer him and no way can the Brewers match it. Sheets will be gone too, and the Brewers lost an amazing prospect in La Porta. Cleveland did amazing in that trade to get him, but I still think the Brewers made the right move. This was their best shot and they had to go for it. At least they made the playoffs, which is an accomplishment for that franchise. I don't think they'll be back there next year though.

I have heard the Angels top offseason priority is to sign Sabathia. They know they can't get Teixeira and will have some money to spend.

Offensively they have a hell of a core with , Prince, Braun, Hardy and even Hart (who was sooo bad after ASB)

I've heard Prince is pretty much gone as soon as his contract is up. He wants to be paid more than Braun, and I doubt they'll give him that. Fielder could join Sabathia somewhere like NY. As an avid Yankees hater that would suck.

Personally, I think what the Brewers did was a wonderful move and they couldnt be more happy about it. I think you guys are thinking on the same side versus the big picture. If the Brewers hadnt brought CC in, they would have collpased and finished South of the Cardinals in the standings.

However, because of him they were able to get themselves into the playoffs and make themselves a boat load of money for the future. Brewers season tickets for next season are already 500% of what they were at this time last season. That will only increase. They sold out games and were able to get their fan base back, making themselves less of a small market team. With the trade for CC, it showed the new ownership is ready to invest in their product.

With the losses of Sheets and CC, they will have 5 picks (maybe 6?) in the 1st round of next years draft. Yes, some are sandwhich but still. This team has built its ENTIRE base upon the draft process. They are very comfortable with this. The Brewers are also coming back with a very solid pitching staff. Gallardo, Parra, Capuano (he should be better), McClung, and Bush are not a bad 5 guys to have in the rotation. They should add some help in the offseason as well to the bullpen. The players are making a gradual increase. This team will be around for the next 5-7 years.
