Yeah depends on the wagers involved.

If you're talking about regular sides or totals, parlays on anything above 2games on a regular basis I don't believe is suggested by anyone who is a veteran bettor.......

Example the other day I had the Lakers as the winners and parlayed it with the over.

The Lakers won but I lost the over.

I'm still upset about the time I missed a ten teamer by one. So, this a touchy subject for me.

I had pacers on the road vs. PHX and Indy got crushed, the last game on the card. Would have paid $5,700.
What a tease.

But just randomly playing 2 teamers? No, you won't get anywhere doing that. Best to play straight bets and use good money & unit management.

I remember one time guy posted on here that he hit 5/6 on a pleaser. He stood to make 30,000$ if it came through. The last game he needed I think was a total for Cards/Niners, (I believe he pleased under) so he called up the book to make a deal for half before the game went off and they denied.

It went way OVER the total. These parlays/teasers/pleasers can be a real heartbreaker. Nice to take chances with them, but be careful.

I play 3 games max for a parlay and do ok but it's tough. It can be very rewarding when you hit. For example today I felt Santana would get rocked so I played the Yankees runline but also parlay it with some favs(tampa bay and angels runline) Very decent payout.

Most of the time though, when I play parlays it's just for fun and not heavy amounts and don't go in expecting to win.

If you can hit at a 60% win rate, parlays are an excellent way of improving your bankroll. If not it's a waste of money.

thekeyman is right... pretty much.

Parlays are sucker bets unless you can find a book that offers them at correct odds, which is moderately rare. In general the correct payoff odds on a 2-team parlay are 13:5; 6:1 for a 3-team parlay.

If your book pays at these rates or better, parlays may be worth betting. I say "may" because even at correct payouts there's no real advantage to parlay a bet rather than to simply make a straight bet. Over the long run the expected profit or loss would be about the same, but with the parlay bettor seeing wilder swings in their bankroll.

Fuller explanations can be found in the excellent books "Weighing the Odds in Sports Betting" and "Sharp Sports Betting."

Parlays are only worth playing when the games start at the same time. If not just make a straight bet. If it wins you have the amount of your original wager and the winnings to do what you choose. Instead of having it tied up in a later game.

They can be a way to get around low limits

Also a way to bet a few -600 odds if you think they have value, but don't want to bet into that type of number
