It is defense *and* bad shooting.

Shooting skills have been on the decline for 10-15 years in favor of highlight skills.

Combine that with the new zone-defense rule. When you've got bad shooters on the floor, a zone-defense can make things ugly.

From what I have seen, the shots are there, but the players miss many of them.

Nothing more frustrating than watching these guys drive the lane, kick the ball out for a wide-open shot, then miss.

it ain't the zone...college teams score the same amount of points or more in 8 less minutes! it's the shooting....

In the NBA it is lazy work ethics. Teams take a weak approach until later in the game. As long as the other team is doing the same, then the game will likely come down to who shoots best in the last minutes instead of for the game. Lazy breeds lazy.
