Happened to me before, I had to wait for its batteries to drain completely and it turned it self off, once I charged it up and turned it on again it worked good(for awhile). No moving parts takes the fun out of smacking something to get it to work doesnt it.

Tried that, he said the buttons dont respond hence your advice is useless. Try immersing it in water, that may help.
