This could be a major impact to alot of people. Banks, taxes, employment, advertising, ect. I know my company will be effected and I am not even in the new car business. We supply them with awards for employees. Not a major part of my business but a little extra I would not like to lose during these times.
I can see where they are comming from we have 4 Dodge dealerships within a 10 mile radius which always made me wonder why do you need that many so close.

19 chrysler dealerships closing in minnesota, none near me.
789 nationwide.

im calculating it'll be between 20-40,000 job losses with the closings. lean towards the 40 more then the 20.

This is what happens when you put an unqualified community organizer in charge of something important.

a president isnt going to change things overnight. only naive people believe that. i assume c-gold, mplastered since they assumed obama would save every job from the posts they made.

not realistic though. you think anything would've been different under c-gold's boy mccain in regards to this?

mccain wanted the stimulus to, and so did the majority of america, regardless of what Tea Parties 2009 Presented by Fox say.

i was against the stimulus but oh well shit happens.

and there are indicators the economy is reviving. as long as shit gets on the upswing by 2010 ill be cool. im not a armchair QB and i know shit takes time to work out.

Mccain wasn't my boy.

I'd compare him to John Kerry, a guy that also just tried to say whatever was popular... Just like Obama does, just like Nancy Pelosi the waterboarder does. Talk about the "hot issues" say that we need to do something... exhibit common sense... tell people what they want to hear regardless on whether you believe it or not and then wooosh, when the issue changes you could deny it, you could switch your position or whatever. Political lying scumbags.

The John Mccain that helped ban online gambling
The John that said we need to "help keep people in their homes"

John Mccain was a democrat-lite and the only reason for conservatives to vote for him was because the other guy was a socialist heavy.

So now we are going to have Barrack Hussein Obama telling our car companies what kinds of cars to make. Make small energy efficient "green cars". What qualifies him to have that opinion and what happens when they yet again lose more money than they bring in???? Will the government throw a 5th round of bailout money at them?

The solution to a debt crisis is to hurry up get get into even MORE debt.

Some conspiracy theorists say that Obama is trying to sabatage the country on purpose because he can't be that stupid... and they have a point.

So, tell me how taking all those dealer jobs away is going to help the job market and economy???

It really does look like Obama is trying to end capitalism... After all if you look at his ideology he is against capitalism... Slowly he is taking control of industry...

Kind of reminds me of Chavez but on a smaller scale... Don't know how people can't see what is going on here. Are they that stupid or ignorant?

Obama is not stupid he is very smart and people are eating out of his hand... He says one thing to lead the idiots in this country one way and then does the other... He knows most people dont care or follow what is going on.

They just listen and feel good about what he says but they do not pay attention to what is happening. The major news agencies are not reputable anymore they do not report the news nor are they unbiased...

But people in this country are stupid and don't believe that their news is controlled... After all we are a free country so how is the news controlled...

At last 50% of the people in this country are idiots and that is how Washington wants it...

Hawk you are dead on. I have been in the business for over 16 years. obama dosn't know shiiite. This is not a politcal forum and I will leave it at that.

I work at a dealership that sold Jeep, Chrysler, Dodge and BMW. In May of lasy year we sold the J-C-D to another local dealer. All we have now is BMW. At one time 2000-2004 we sold over 100 new C-J-P units a month.

Now we are just BMW. Here is the list of our dead. So to speak:

1. The guy that repaired chips in the windshield.
2. The guy that fixed the dents monr/major
3. The guy that repaired the interiors. Scuffs tand tears whatever.
4. The guy that did our dealer to dealer swap pickups.
5. The parts driver
6. The guy that repaired the scratch.
7. The many other people that worked for them.
8. Shiite, I forgot. The landscaper, the etc. etc. and on and on.

Many very decent people own dealerships. I worked for one that said if it is a holiday we are closed. So, all you wonderfull people that go to shop or waste time for a car went on Labor Day the 4th of July New Years Eve they were closed.

Anyway, All I'm saying is this is not good for anyone.

Actually, I'd say 52.7% of the country is idiots.

If just 2.7 % of the people snap out of it, or figure out what is going on, or graduate from college and have to start paying taxes, or go to jail, or whatever...

Then we won't have to live through the failed experiment of having a community organizer as president anymore and we can progress as a country instead of regress.

The guy is such a putz you can't put words to it.
slow motion train wreck.

This is great news for economic conservatives like me.

By shutting down bloated and unproductive (to the company bottom line) dealerships, the major auto manufacturers MIGHT have a decent shot at getting their overall finances in order during the coming decade.

Plus, for the end consumer, there's going to be a lot of great deals available.

I've received in just the past week several fresh advertising pitches from existing major car dealerships here in TBay area wherein they are sure making some very, very competitive selling offers in hopes of attracting me in to buy a new vehicle.

We're in the market for a new truck and I'll report back if our final selection is from one of these major dealers.

I'll tell you the car dealerships closing is killing small towns. They make a lot of their income off of taxes that they get and now that is gone.

and how is that problem solved?

When towns or even big highly populated states can't balance their budget???

Obama comes in and taxes EVERYBODY to pay for it. Now the farmer in Nebraska is paying for social programs for the druggie in San Francisco.

Hope and change.

I think this action sounds a lot worse than it is. the dealerships that are being shut out by the manufacturers are not the large highly visible dealerships most people are thinking.

Getting the details on the sizes and sales numbers is difficult at this time. However, some info has come out. 50% of the GM closings sell 1 or fewer cars per month. At Chrysler, 50% of their dealerships that were not closed account for 90% of their sales. It appears the 25% of the dealerships that are being closing represent a very small % of total sales.

With a few possible exceptions, tiny dealerships don't employ many people connected to "sales".

Not sure why these closings will save a lot of money for the manufacturers, but I don't think their closings represent a lot of job losses.

Yep, that's how it works all right.

The IRS has a special category for "Taxes paid by Nebraska farmers".

And they take all that money and transfer it to another special category, "Druggies in San Francisco".

If the farmer in Nebraska doesn't like the system, all he has to do is move out to San Francisco and become a drug addict.

My post was mostly sarcasm. Mostly, but not totally. There isn't a single person posting here with all the facts. We aren't privy and never will be. I'm self employed and have worked too hard to have someone tell me I'm out of business. Especially someone who has never had the responsibility of employing a worker who has family. If BO fails , we all fail. Now that really sucks. I'm buzzed and going to bed. Good night all.
