False advertising, Canseco's first topps card was 1987, unless you are counting his topps traded card, which was only included in sets. I believe the same is true of Bo Jackson, but I am less sure of that one.

I stand corrected, you are 100% right. I'm thinking of the Topps Traded series, 1986 (which I have two of). But I do have a 1986 regular Topps box. But without Jose and Bo, the value of that box just decreased even more than it already was. What a crapola year 1986 was to be collecting cards!

the 86 donruss canseco is the one everyone wanted...was a $100 card at one point. now, you can use it to clean out the gunk in gap between the two plastic walls of your car stereo.

also, the 87 fleer bo jackson was the best jackson rookie. still have that card. loved bo jackson.

I remember that Canseco card...blue background no? And what about the Bo Jackson black and white card of him holding a baseball bat with shoulder pads on.

It was interesting that, growing up in Canada, we couldn't buy Topps cards. Instead it was called O-Pee-Chee, and although the cards were identical to Topps, they only made the series to be 300+ cards, whereas Topps was 700+ cards for a set. As a result, in 1983, although Topps made a Ripken rookie card, O-Pee Chee did not. (But O Pee Chee did make the Tony Gwynn rookie, of which I have 6 or 7). At the time, the Canadian collectible industry treated the O Pee Chees as far less valuable than the Topps cards. Ironically, now that I'm living in Vegas, the O Pee Chees are far more valuable due to their rarity. And while I was always digging for and paying for the U.S. cards as a kid, it's my Canadian cards that now have the better value.

Similarly, we couldn't get Donruss in Canada, it was called "Donruss Leaf". My Leaf rookie card of Clemens is now one of my favorites. I believe that it was a 1987 card, even though Clemens was a rookie in 1985. I don't know why there was such a time lag for him getting a Leaf card.

Was that one of those 'Future Stars' cards with three players? I do know that the 1983 card where Rip is wearing that bright orange shirt and is on the backswing and has the funny expression was not made by O-P-C, because I always wanted that card. But it didn't exist in Canada.

I think you're referring to the cover of his autobiography, 'Bo Knows Bo'...
