I had Direcway and if you have any other alternative, I would suggest you stay away from them. Expensive and about half the speed of dsl.

Direcway has improved greatly over the past year.

I knew someone who had it. I didn't think it was as fast as dsl or cable. Anyway his association made a big stink because the antenna they put on the roof and I do have to say it was big and ugly it looked like you were talking to people in outer space. He ended up with cable.

if you have NOTHING else and I mean NOTHING but that and dial up then go for it

whats your cable provider? it should be decent reliability

even if you are out of dsl area coverage have you asked your telco about ISDN? its only 128 kbps but could work for it

satellite is VERY expensive and has a lot of drawbacks but sometimes its the only available option

T1

If youve got deep pockets you should try getting a T1. its about 15 times faster than cable and is satellite based !:103631605

in the States thats not necessarily the case

a T1 is about 1.54 Mbps (both directions download and upload but most users won't notice the upload speed), there are cable packages that give more than that in their download speeds

the difference is you get it with a bunch of guarrantees and a 99.9% or higher availability and if not then you can ask for refunds

unless he works online and his income depends on the internet connection I can't imagine that the cost of a T1 can be justified

(not to say that I wouldn't have one if I COULD afford it..........)

ok, I am aware that comcast has been having issues with their dns servers

have the techs told you anything about it?

dns problems = your conection is fine but your computer cant translate www.therx.com into the ip to establish the connection

solution- force the computer to use a dns other than the ones comcast has

hopefully comcast really fixed once and for all the issue otherwise read here
