Have a room in Chattanooga, TN then going Dayton or Athens which ever road has less traffic. Dayton is on Route 27 about 39 miles outside of Chattanooga. It should have less traffic Monday morning because 27 isn't accessible to as many Interstates. Route 75 on the other hand connects with Atlanta and Knoxville. I am hoping that 27 isn't total gridlock Monday morning. If it is I am throwing away a lot of money. It's surprising that there are so many rooms available in Chattanooga on Sunday and Monday it could be a good sign. What's weird is there are other cities 40 miles away from where you can view the Eclipse around the country and they are all sold out. Naturally every hotel and motel room in Dayton is sold out and same goes for Athens. I also have a room reserved in Chesterfield, Mo which has 1:30 of totality. It comes down do I want to drive nearly a 1000 miles to St Louis or 750 miles to Chattanooga. Right now the weather favors Athens over Chesterfield. The advantage in Missouri is I don't have to drive if I'm willing to live with 1:30. Traffic would be no issue. I hope I'm not making a mistake. No one really knows how bad Chattanooga traffic will be. I know that Nashville is 100% sold out and has been for months. They have heavily advertised. They want to make it a Jack Daniels and music fest with the Eclipse. Dayton is a Bible Belt town with a church on every corner. Maybe that will hold down the crowd.
