after evaluating some more, I got down small on PSU -25...may up it before Saturday.
I can't see temple coming up with any kind of offensive yardage here. Although the D line is weak, it is still going to be able to overpower the Temple O line. Linebackers have experience and are playmakers. Secondary is underrrated IMO, and will probably end up with a few INTs. Temple will be lucky to get 7 in the game, probably more like 3.
Likewise, PSU offense, while not highly regarded, should have no trouble bowling over temple. Mills to T. Johnson was a nice combo lat year...I look for him to have 2 TD in this game. Running game may be "by committee" for now, and no one will have a problem looking good against this D. As far as I know, running back slot is still up for decision, so these guys will be playing their hearts out. O line is a ragtag group, but again should be able to manhandle the Temple line. I suspect Michael Robinson will be lining up in the back field and as receiver on occasion (also as QB on the option). He's another big play maker that can make a difference, and I look for him to see the end zone at least once.
Personally, I see PSU as #3 or 4 team in the Big 10 this year (not playing Michigan helps). Should be able to do a lot of damage against a far inferior team here. Also, home field will be huge (see below). Seen a lot of good teams get rattled in Beaver Stadium, and don't think Temple will be able to shake the crowd off.
I see a very one-sided game here. JoePa trying to warm up the offense should lead to some big scoring opportunities for State
(and, yes, this is a very biased opinion
)
PSU 45
Temple 3
BTW house will be packed and crazy this weekend...don't forget to take this into account. Tickets are selling on the street for much more than I expected. should be a packed house of rabid and intoxicated fans. Also this is the first weekend before classes and an afternoon (3:30 local) game. Plenty of time for everyone to get nice and drunk before the game. Beaver Stadium will rock this weekend, probably too wild for temple!
