around the phoenix area(within 3-500 miles), with a beach. Away from all the hustle and bustle of normal everyday life?

Any nice secluded areas in Cali?

Away from gambling that is.

You gotta come here. You know you can do it (the flight that is).

If not, have you looked at Lake Powell?

My personal favorite place in California for a vacation is Monterrey Bay, about an hour south of S.F.

Next favorite place is San Diego. San Diego rocks. Why anyone would live is a shittown like LA when they can live in San Diego is beyond me.

BigBet,

From Long Beach, catch the Catalina Express out to the island (like $30). There's a variety of hotel and condo rooms, cruise the island, check out the wild bufffalo and the wrigley mansion. Trust me, clean air, chill people, good getaway.

P-

thought about SD, or Monterrey Bay doesnt sound too bad. Man, I dont think i could do the flight.

Fish-Havasu would be way to crowded

Huck- if i stay in long beach, is there a nice secluded hotel? we would like a hotel with in walking distance to a beach, shops and night life.

again, this is a suprise to my wife, she will have no idea where we are going. she doesnt even know i am planning it.

thanks for all the helpful info

BB,

I was saying stay out on Catalina Island, it's all what you described except for a hopping nightlife (as far as I know). I used to boat out there and snorkel around. It's cool because you're so close to the city, but completely secluded on the island. I can't recommend Long Beach. It's too crowded and crime is high. If you're going to stay on the mainland, either go up to Ventura or down to San Diego.

Stay away from Central Florida for now, may be about to get wiped out by ANOTHER hurricane.

As if living without running water and electricity for 2 weeks wasn't enough, could happen just days after things start to get back to normal. I'll just leave the state this time, so basically, I am asking the same question as Bigbet....."Anyone know a good getaway location"?

well if your going to be "on guard" all the
time in Mexico then you won't enjoy it very
much.

How about Havasu Falls?? you need to be
somewhat fit to make the hike, but very pretty,
secluded.just be careful if the monsoon season
is still active.it can flash flood there.
