Go for it! It's a blast...and the most dangerous aspect is probably driving to the airport or riding up to the clouds in a plane that feels like it fell out of a cereal box...seriously, the jump itself is a blast...

the jump is great. the tinbox plane scared the shit out of me, and hitting the deck was pretty scary too.

Once was enough!

J-Man: I've never done it, but my brother has about 50 times. He's told me you can sort of piggy-back onto another ( experienced) jumper, and enjoy the ride. It might be a good introduction.

I did it in the USMC. I loved it. Much better than bungee jumping, IMO.

Do it...you won't regret it.

J-man: I've considered it. Main problem is my brother lives 2,000 miles away in Colo, don't see him too often.

I'd also be a little fearful ( now) since I have a surgically repaired ankle, and wouldn't want to risk damaging it. I would have done it before the ankle. I'd ride the space shuttle , for sure. The opportunity never really came about.

My brother is 8 years older than me ( he's 48 ). His philosophy is take more risks as you age, less to lose ( time-wise).

I think it's much better than 999 out of 1,000 , unless you are jumping into a war-zone. In that case, much worse ! Easy target. I saw a stat once, but don't recall. Try Google.

I've done it once and I highly recommend it -- safer than bungee jumping and a much bigger thrill.

Did it once, static line pulled the cord, thank goodness.

Great time but would never do it again,

I remember what the instructors final words were after 8 hours of training was.

1) if shoot does not open pull emergency cord.
2) if shoot does not open reach back and try to pull out manually.
3) Altitude meter should release cord at 2000 feet.
4) If all fails put your head between your legs and kiss your ass goodbye !

Was supposed to do it a few weeks back, however the day we picked out was too cloudy and ended up waiting around and eventually giving up on it that day. Plan on going back in a couple weeks to try it.

The scariest thing is most likely reading and signing the disclaimer that basically takes all your rights away if anything goes wrong.

On the disclaimer it states as fact that about 1 in 20,000 jumps results in death.

My instructors said that the vast majority of deaths are caused by not following correct procedures -- ie. poor packing of parachutes, late release, or other human error. Like anything else, the odds are hugely influenced by how much care is taken to do things right.

They have an indoor "skydiving" place in Las vegas..try that instead.

If at first you dont succeed ...so much for skydiving

I have been a couple of times and it was a blast! My little brother on the other hand has only been once. His chute didn't open properly and he had to pull his emergency one. He then proceeded to drift over the highway and some powerlines. They had to send a car to chase him down. He ended up in a farmers field with a fractured vertebrae from the landing. He went to the hospital and then home. The company called him later and asked him if he was ok. He told them about his injury and they said they only needed to make sure he was still alive for insurance purposes. Oh yeah, my friend went skydiving and broke his leg the first jump.
