Anyone here ever hunt for gold?

Gonna be moving into a place where gold has been found in the past. Already found a ton of small streams in the middle of nowhere off old Forest Service roads. Gonna do dredge and what not. I'm not expecting to strike it rich or anything but it will be fun to dick around in the woods.

Anyone have any experience with this?

Google it....everything you could ever need to know step by step.....not that hard it looks like from my reading, no personal knowledge.....Kinda like gambling, long dry spells followed big wins..

I was a member of a few gold prospecting forums. A couple were in Arizona when I lived there. Here's one for the whole country:

Just select your area from the link in the forum.

There's a club you can belong to that the guys from "Gold Fever" put together. That's a program on the Outdoor Channel on satellite. I hear that's a bit expensive for just the casual prospector.

Make sure you get a Gold Detector, not just a metal detector. You'll find that a lot of prime gold locations also have other metals in the soil. Tesoro, Garrett and Fisher have some good models.
